Willing to support Gov’t but not without scrutiny – Christopher

J. Alvin Christopher is willing to support the current administration but not without scrutiny.
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – This is J. Alvin Christopher’s fourth term as an elected representative for the 2nd District and while he plans to support the current administration of the National Democratic Party as an elected member in the House of Assembly, the stalwart politician said it will not be done without scrutiny.

“The people of the territory has spoken and whatever it takes to move the territory forward in a positive way I am willing to make that contribution and supporting them … but that support will not come without considering and examining every proposal to make sure they are in line with what the people these islands want, I will support when it is necessary and will not support when it is not necessary for the people of these islands,” the Virgin Islands Party district representative firmly stated at the VIP press conference held on November 10, 2011.

Christopher who is one of four VIP members to be re-elected and now forms the opposition, said the VIP “must regroup and examine where we have made our mistakes and do whatever within our power and with the advice of the people of this territory to correct those mistakes and continue to build on the legacy which we have started some 40 years ago.”

He congratulated the new Government of Premier Dr. D. Orlando Smith and the National Democratic Party and also thanked supporters for re-elected him to his fourth term in office.

In the 2nd District, Christopher defeated a field of three other candidates to retain his seat with 423 votes . The National Democratic Party's Claude Skelton Cline came in second with 339 votes, Independent Leall Rymer with 38 and Allewine Smith with 7.

let's wait and see??? Alvin you of all people have the nerve to be talking about scrutiny??? Thank God the NDP has managed to put a bell on you. Your own colleague exposed you for taking land from people that our well needed tax money paid for and you here talking bout scrutiny. I am glad you won over that loud mouth man, but rest assured, our tax money ain paying for no more land that you use to buy off your voters. So sit back, relax and don't be like the politicians in america who are deliberately trying to make it hard for Obama to move the country forward simply because they want to see him fail.

MR. Christopher needs to be scrutinised for All those envelopes he passed out in Jost Van Dyke the Sunday before election. He should be the last one to want to scrutinise people. I KNOW he will soon be exposed for his unethical ways. He is so sneaky I'm afraid of him.

Lesser of two evils. It would be nice if some of the allowance given to the district leaders was spent on the district. Ballast and Cane are falling apart. Roads are undermined, sea walls crumbling, filth, sewage going into the sea. It's an eyesore. Perhaps some public accountancy of every dollar received and to who and how it was spent is in order. Quarterly reports made public. We deserve to know where our tax dollars go and why nothing ever gets done.
