In August 2017, the National Security Council approved a sum of $95,000 to add to $5,000 that was provided by the family in June of 2017 as reward for information that would lead to the arrest and successful prosecution of the individual or individuals responsible for the murder of Ashburn A. Dawson aka ‘Ashy’.

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Three years after 30-year-old Ashburn A. Dawson aka ‘Ashy’ was gunned down in the vicinity of the Sunday Morning Well in Road Town, Tortola, police and the family are still seeking justice.

In fact, they are still seeking information that may lead to the arrest of the perpetrator.

According to the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF), on Friday, March 10, 2017 around 10:10 pm, the victim attended “Meals on Wheels” which is a mobile food van located on the Lower Estate Road close to the Main Street junction, to get a meal.

Upon completion, he rode off on a red and black motor scooter in the direction of the Sunday Morning Well, when he came under a hail of gunfire by an unknown person, injuring him. He was transported to the Peebles Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

“Detectives from the Major Crime Investigations Team are seeking your assistance in identifying the perpetrator/s responsible for the murder…” a police press release today, March 13, 2020, stated, adding that detectives are still hopeful that members of the community may have crucial information, “to assist in identifying those responsible for this senseless shooting, in an effort to bring some closure to the grieving family.”

Anyone with information relating to these crimes are urged to contact Detective Inspector Vernon Larocque; directly on 368-9809 or the Major Crime Investigation Team on 368-5682.

“All information will be treated with the strictest confidence,” the press release stated.

$100,000 reward

In August 2017, the National Security Council approved a sum of $95,000 to add to $5,000 that was provided by the family in June of 2017 as reward for information that would lead to the arrest and successful prosecution of the individual or individuals responsible for the murder.

Police had said the reward would be paid only for substantial, provable information.

Officers of the Major Crime Team, who are conducting the murder investigation, will evaluate the information and determine if its value warrants the payment of all or a percentage of the $100,000.

“The information provided should support existing and ongoing inquiries by the team. A portion of the reward may be given for information which advances the investigation to the next level. The ultimate decision on payment will rest with the Commissioner of Police,” a police press release on August 28, 2017 stated.

‘We remain hopeful’- Family of ‘Ashy’

The police press release on March 13, 2020 also provided a quote from the family of the late Ashburn A. Dawson aka “Ashy”

"Today is the 3rd anniversary of the horrific night when our beloved Ashburn was brutally snatched from our lives. He remains in our hearts and there is not a day that we are not in grief that he is no longer physically with us.

“The family continues to pray and we remain hopeful and encouraged, especially following recent arrests for unsolved murders in our Territory, that justice for our Ashy will come.

“On behalf of our family and all his friends who loved him, I wish to take this opportunity to urge persons to come forward and provide the investigators with any information, no matter how insignificant it may appear, to assist in the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for this senseless murder."
