‘Where is Hon O’Neal?’- Anegada residents
“During campaign period they started doing all things, making big promises, giving incentives, showing more interest in our schools and all these things were just to get our votes now we are back to being the ‘step child’ of this territory,” lamented one businessman.
One of the main issues affecting residents and the business community is the poor condition of most of the roads on the island. “They started doing the roads before elections, after elections it’s like they forget that they were doing roads up here,” said the businessman.
According to the resident while, asking “Where is Hon O’Neal”, the state of the roads is not only affecting locals but it is also a tourism threat in the making.
“I know of these guys that do motorcycle rentals [and] they complaining bitterly, bitterly because the tourists renting their bikes and because the roads are so bad many of them fall with the bikes and cause damages.”
He added, “It seems that they are waiting for something serious to happen to a tourist and they get a good lawsuit in their @$$. Then is when we will see they going find some money somewhere to come say they fixing roads.”
Toilet facility remains an issue
Another issue brought to this news site as a matter of concern to the residents of Anegada is the state of the toilet facility at the ferry dock.
“I remember it was VINO who reported on the state of that thing they have there as a community facility… they said all things about how they were going to get that handled in short order but come up here and see for yourself, not a straw has been pulled, nothing done.”
Residents continue to call for their District Representative to be visible on the island. “You already in the position, nothing we can do to remove you now. Just come and do the job that you were put in office to do. We are not stepchildren, we are not tiger or lion fish, we don’t bite, we want to at least see you come around and find out from us what is affecting us. Tell us what can and cannot be done. Don’t just stay away and assume we know what is,” said the businessman to District Representative Honourable Hubert O’Neal.
Efforts to reach Hon O’Neal for a response were not successful.

Come on Bertie, Anegadians are counting on you!
If it could be put in Beef Island, why could it not go to Anegada which would have been far cheaper than a Beef Island expansion? If you ask me, they are too bad minded and petty.
If he will just put aside the 2015 election win, he will get things done in the 9th district, but when politics are for each and everything, what can he get done?
There are so many voters in the 9th district, that have so many great ideas..and that are ones who will get things done without a doubt.
Simple sidewalk cleaning-that needs no vast amount of money
school maintenance-no vast amount of money needed
simple things, and not even that he can't get done, because the head is still caught up in the 2015 victory.
The peaceful revolution we need must be made by us! But first, we need courage to take responsibility for our own direction and to accept our failures of the past and present, and those we will make as we chart a new course. Have you seen anyone with that kind of gumption recently?
Even persons with ability are afraid to offer ideas for fear of victimization. When ever there is silence and unilateral decision making in the public sphere, among the leaders there will be the kind of severe passive aggression that leads to repression of the best ideas and persons.
