ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- A strong critic of the beleaguered Ninth District Representative Dr The Honourable Hubert O’Neal, a Mr Pop Stevens, has blasted Hon O’Neal on social media for saying his critics are in the “minority” and that they are only making “noise”.

Hon O’Neal, in an interview with a local online publication last week, said: “You have a number of folks, probably a minority of folks making some noise, maybe not my supporters, who were probably opposed to me from onset, saying that I was absent.”

The Ninth District Representative has largely been criticised for being “absent” in his district, and especially following the passage of hurricanes Irma and Maria.

Mr Stevens; however, assured Hon O’Neal that his critics are not in the minority, in a Facebook post on November 1, 2017.

“Mr Ninth District Representative, I am one of the persons who you would deem a critic. let me dispel your first statement. We're not in the minority, I am speaking for the majority of persons residing in the Ninth District, Voters and non voters, we are not making noise, were telling it like it is (LOUDLY). You HAVE been absent, missing, lacking, unavailable, non-existent, in absentia, AWOL.............”

Mr Stevens asked Hon O’Neal where he was for the past 6 weeks, how many town hall meetings was held, the places he visited after Irma, the amount of homes assessed and what plans he had for those destroyed homes.

'Electricity was not brough back by you [Hon O'Neal]'

Hon O’Neal in the November 1, 2017 publication had also boasted that electricity had returned to some parts of the Ninth District; however, Mr Stevens would not let Hon O’Neal take the credit for it.

“Electricity has returned to some places YES, but not by the help of you, it was done by the help of Chris Yates whom we thank from the bottom of our hearts, NOT YOU. And it could have been much more than 50% if you and your party members did not foolishly dismiss her plan for water and power redistribution throughout the Ninth District.”

Mr Stevens further said Virgin Gorda is doing better than some places after the storm, “yes, but the help is coming from OUR friends not yours. If those who are helping are your friends, you would have accepted their offer to stay at one of their homes so you could be on Virgin Gorda on the ground, you rejected that offer.”

Mr Stevens then challenged Hon O’Neal to dispose of all “critics and noise and opposers” by responding to these questions he asked, but said Hon O’Neal probably won't, and they don't expect you to.

“We have come to expect nothing from you. WE ARE VGSTRONG, WE LOOK OUT FOR EACH OTHER.”

“Again, on behalf of the majority of people in the Ninth District I want to say a special thanks to all who have donated their monies, time, labour, building materials, food supplies, and good will to the rebuilding of Virgin Gorda. You are the ones who have been here since day one and you have continued to be here for us,” Mr Stevens concluded his Facebook post.

The people of the ninth district usually relax and take a wait and see approach. What has happened is that we have decided to go back to our roots and look out for each other. Irma taught us several lessons but I believe the major one is that we are on our own - forget Tortola and the politicians. We have taken care of ourselves and thank God we have friends in many places who love us and have looked out for us. Our representatives have all been absent- guess they were rendered comatose by Irma and Maria. Whatever the reason we are working together. We are VG Strong. We will survive and come out stronger, better and a more cohesive community.

    Chris Yates???

The Corporation did all the work on the ground. Yates contributed the money that made all that work possible.

Seem like Virgin Gorda has cut all ties with Tortola. Are they going independant? Looks like Chris Yates has the lead for the post of Premier or in the case of independance Prime Minister.

Stop this division of the islands. Let all the people ban together to rebuild our country. We grew from bird sanctuary to yachting capital of the world together. Let us remember the past that shaped our future. We were always there for each other. We were helping each other from corn pork and corn fish days to now, steak days (if one thinks that's good food)

On the issue of politics, maybe the time has come for the Virgin Islands to consider electing:
    1. The Premier independent of party
    2. And 12 other members for the Legislature independent of any party.
    3. Do like St. Thomas. All man jack who want to be in politics, go in individually. Let the 12 highest vote getters be in the House. This party thing not working. God bless these Virgin Islands, and we are still going to sing..."out of the huts of history's pain our ancestors bled and died, but with strength and willpower we overcame..."
    Virgin Islands Stronger than ever!

There are political parties in St Thomas. Democrats and Republicans ICM, Independents etc... Tortola has created the division and the 9th District needs to go the way of the St. Kitts Nevis model. We are tired of being second class citizens. Until Tortolians realize that the BVI is NOT Tortola alone then maybe we will not be divided.

I totally agree with Pops, we are the majority!!! I wonder if Bertie will try to fight all of us how he threatened to fight Fraser? We ONLY voted for Bertie because Ralph was forced to retire and we didn't have any better candidates. We just thought that after the years of trying he might surprise us. We know better now. We are tired of you. We don't want you. We can't wait for the next election.

BTW, those ministers that were at the school should be ashamed to even pose in the photo. Your party haven't done a thing for this district. I swear the only time they are available or awake is when there is a photo op

A prophet is not honoured in his own home town. Watch it the kings have taken over the lands but God is angry. We have not changed Irma made us worse it seems. Hear this fire will burn the wickedness so get our houses in order stop playing the fool. The real king is coming. Prepare for his royal entry all the builders
Tools will be silent, no more time to harvest wheat, the market place will be empty there will be no more traffic in the street. Heavens
Chior will assemble and that will be the time to sing amazing grace. So I'm begging all to prepare
For the King Royal entrance get our houses in order. B.V.I I'm sounding the alarm. Too many strong holds in the territory time to tear down those bad spirits and allow God to take control.
