NORTH SOUND, Virgin Gorda, VI- While residents of various parts of the sister island of Virgin Gorda, including the Valley, have had some relief to their recent water woes, residents of North Sound are still experiencing water shortages.

“The government confirmed that they fixed the water in the Valley but North Sound had no water,” said one concerned resident who called our newsroom on Sunday April 17, 2016.

She said before they would receive water only some days per week but now it has improved slightly to water being made available for a few hours every day.

The North Sound resident, who asked that we protect her identity for fear of victimisation, complained bitterly about not having any water and the discomfort and inconvenience she and many others have had to endure.

“They are not giving us any information. I am hearing on the street that there is an issue with the tank and that it has a leak which means it can't be filled to capacity,” she said.

The resident noted that the water would come on early in the morning and go off around midday until the next morning.

“This literally has been going on since January,” she said.

A vexing issue for the Minister

When we approached Minister for Communications and Works Honourable Mark H. Vanterpool (R4), he said he had an idea what the problem might be but wanted to check properly before pronouncing on it. However, up to post time he had not gotten back to us.

Speaking on Wednesday March 23, 2016 during the Seventh Sitting of the First Session of the Third House of Assembly, the Minister said, “Madam Speaker, water is a vexing issue and it has been the most challenging issue in my management in the Ministry of Communications and Works. ..not the Tortola Pier Park or the cruise ship development that has been my most challenging issue. It is the issue of water.”

“I had hoped that we could have had water to many more places in the territory on a consistent basis. To be honest Madam Speaker, as Minister I am very embarrassed by the situation in Virgin Gorda at this point in time,” Minister Vanterpool continued, noting that he was embarrassed the Government has not been able to address the issue in other parts of the country. He had indicated that the situation should be improved towards the end of 2016.

Does comment even make sense, it has only been under the new administration that the infrastructure has been ignored. It is only in the wake of new representation that issues are not being resolved. But some how this small where's the blame of the current situation when as a territory we overwhelmingly made a decision. Fools at their best I say.

@ Good Going.....for you to sit there and make such a statement just goes to show that what you wish for your brothers and sisters could be granted to you 10 fold. Sometimes we as people hold others to a high standard, we put our trust and belief in them only to realize that they are a let down to us all. We all have a right to choose who we want to represent us and if they don't deliver, we also have the power to take away the priviledge we have given to them, always remember that. We are the employer they are the employee.

@Good Going, What goes around comes right back around. For you to say something like that is just plain stupid
And ignorant. You will go thru the same thing one day. Guess what? If you were panting for a glass of water and I had the last glass of water, I would throw it away before I give it to you. How can you sit there and rejoice about people not having access to water. Dumb ignorant fool.

@Good Going, you seem to have a problem with people from North Sound. Why don't you come down here and make a public statement in the street about we should suffer and no water for 2 years so I can personally give you a good old fashion beat down.
