Walwyn strikes back with “tape” of Premier’s endorsement!
Last evening October 22, 2011, at the NDP’s grand rally in Cane Garden Bay, Walwyn too sounded a strong warning to Premier Ralph T. O’Neal stating: “I hope that when those sleeping dogs rise, that they have enough energy to run before they get bite … the harder they come the harder they will fall”.
Walwyn, who had previously warned that he will be "forced to speak out” if the Premier continued to try to rewrite his tenure as Chairman of the BVI Tourist Board, played the recording of an interview on ZBVI radio done by Zan Lewis. The interview was reportedly done about a week after Walwyn’s resignation from the BVI Tourist Board. In response to a question posed by Lewis about Walwyn’s tenure and whether there was any problem why he resigned the Premier said, he did not know if anything could have gone wrong and he believes Walwyn was doing a good job. He also said on the recording, that he appreciated Walwyn for taking on the job and that he was doing a good job.
“Now ladies and gentlemen if I didn’t know any better that would have sounded like a full endorsement by the Premier and the Minister for Tourism of the good work that I have done as the Chairman of the BVI Tourist Board,” Walwyn told supporters at the rally last evening, stating that the interview was done after he resigned from the BVITB but before he decided to seek office with the National Democratic Party.
The young politician said it is unfortunate that for political reasons the leader of the country will seek yet again “to tarnish the reputation and record of another virgin islander, as he has become known to do time and time again. Is this all that he has to offer after 36 years in political office, I will tell you, that the harder they come the harder they will fall”.
Left BVTB with hands “clean as a whistle”
The former BVI TB Chairman also refuted the Premier’s statements regarding his resignation and his offer to stay on for two months.
At the October 21, 2011 Virgin Islands Party (VIP) rally on Fahie Hill, the Premier had said among other things that “… So when he did me the favour of submitting his resignation and then said he would like to stay on for two months, I said no sir, you resigned, it was accepted, go”.
To that statement, Walwyn said, “… I served the BVI Tourist Board and this country extremely well. He spoke about some two months he asked me to leave, I come from good stock, and its proper when you are leaving a job that you give the employer chance to find a suitable replacement and that is what I did, it’s the matter for the employer to say stay or to go but the courtesy was extended. It is the fit and proper thing to do. I have always acted in the best interest of the Board and this country and I left with my hands as clean as a whistle”.
He said it did not surprise him that based on the Premier’s comments, he and his “surrogates manufacture lies to tarnish my image as they have done to so many persons in the British Virgin Islands”.
Walwyn also responded to another part of the Premier’s statement of October 21 where the Premier said “I heard Walwyn said let sleeping dogs lie, but he knows why he said that because the sleeping dog will reveal what he was doing. He better be careful because I will come armed between now and voting day and let out the whole thing out of the bag!”
To that, Walwyn responded, “But I Myron B. Walwyn not afraid and if someone insist on waking up sleeping dogs, I hope that when those sleeping dogs rise, that they have enough energy to run before they get bite. Even seasoned Police can be caught by the teeth of the truth.”
Weeks leading up to the upcoming general elections, the campaign trail has seemed to take on a new turn, with “war of words” from both major parties, the Virgin Islands Party and the National Democratic Party.
As the November 7, 2011 General Elections gets closer it would seem the war of words would further escalate.
