ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Newly sworn-in Virgin Islands Youth Parliament (VIYP) Shadow Premier, Mr Kevin S. Fahie has been hailed as a youth role model by Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) in a social media tribute today, Saturday, October 24, 2020.

Premier Fahie in the statement said, “Every Saturday, I take time to salute person(s) in our BVI community and beyond whose positive story may or may not have ever been told, but still needs to be heard,” naming Shadow Premier Fahie as one such individual.

VI youths need leadership examples – Kevin Fahie

The young Fahie during his inaugural speech as Shadow Premier and Minister of Finance at the October 20, 2020, VIPY relaunch ceremony said, “Now more than ever, the Territory’s youth need examples of strength, good character and leadership.”

Kevin Fahie, a graduate of California State University—Northridge and Central Arizona College was also hailed for his marketing and relationship building drive as well as his leadership and coaching skills.

“Team building, organising and implementing are his commitment to those he is entrusted to lead,” the Premier said while wishing Kevin all success in his political endeavours.

“As Premier of this Territory, I am proud when our young people take such a keen interest in leadership and in learning about how Government and Governance work. It assures us that our Territory is on the right track for having capable hands ready and waiting to carry us forward when the time comes,” Hon Fahie said.

Unpredictable year of COVID-19

The 2020 VI Youth Parliament kicked off in an unpredictable year of navigating the COVID-19 pandemic, where youths will learn about the democratic process and participate in debates on issues facing society.

Premier Fahie reminded youths to remain open to learning, make a personal commitment to push forward and to never settle for mediocrity while recognising that the key to success is to embrace purpose.
