ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Former President of the BVI Taxi Association, Mr Karl M. ‘Dubb’ Scatliffe is giving locals and residents alike two thumbs up for what he says is their hospitality to all despite the daily negativity that exists in the territory.

The Bus and Taxi Operator told Virgin Islands News Online that his remarks hinge on feedback that he receives from visitors and expatriates alike.

According to him, the goodness in the people shines through and people feel welcomed.

“Just recently, I gave a man a ride, he said he has travelled throughout the world and this is the friendliest island, where people don’t have to know you to give you a ride to where you are going. This is something I hear all the time,” he said.

“That is a good thing, you know, despite all the negative things people say, and the negative vibes,” Mr Scatliffe, who did not elaborate on the negativity he was referring to.

The Virgin Islands continues to be recognised as one of the top choice for tourists the world over, both for the physical beauty of the islands and the warm hospitality of the people.

BVIlanders are the worst whether coming in on ferry or at airport. Haven't entered thru port but have seen the taxi men there arguing

I'm sorry to say that politics from our unqualified ministers has reached the street level and things are going to the dogs very quickly.

If you want to see a solution then advise the representatives of the booking agents to stop stealing the taxi men cash paying fares and pocketing the money.
      Set of thieves!!

This is what with have. This is evidence of our upbringing. This is who we are.Our past and our ancestors had a lot to do with this. It all work hand in hand. EXAMPLE the "Good mornings' & " Good afternoons"

In most countries this is rare.

Lets be sure to continue raising our children in such a way so that when they are old they will do so, and also teach there kids to do the same.

Also when you go abroad people recognize it and asks where are you from. It's as if you are bringing blessings from abroad.

My info: All repetitive personal experiences.

The physical beauty of the BVI is without doubt. Unfortunately the people there do not understand how to treat visitors or how to be hospitable. This man Dubb needs to do some traveling in order to understand how the rest of the world operates and how other beautiful places on the globe value their tourists and visitors. Big fish, small sea!

About the people don't have to know you to give you a ride, that is not so true. People don't want to give another a ride because most of them are afraid to just let anyone in their car. The way things is going here, I don't just let anyone in my car. It is not that I am being mean, I just don't trust anyone.
I pick up a stranger, I might regret it.

Agreed. These days people are much more afraid to give any and everyone a ride but many people in the B.V.I still stop for people compare to many other countries who do not stop at all.

The problems were faced in the taxi industry have been done by the elected ministers and the livery director.Persons in the liver sector we have about 4 plates you have Taxi, which is the only vehicle that is by law is required to transport person for reward or for hire is the Taxi.we have the S plates meaning shuttle.these plates were given to individuals to transport person to a designated location with a prepaid voucher.41. (1) A person issued a permit to drive a shuttle motor vehicle shall not use
the motor vehicle for any other livery service, and in providing the service, shall
transport people from one specified location to another in the form of a special
chartered drop-off.then you have the L plates (1) A person issued a permit to drive a Limousine shall subject
to sub-regulation (2), not use the motor vehicle for any other livery service, and in
providing the Limousine service, shall use the Limousine to transport a person to
a wedding, prom, concert, special group function or other similar function but yet you see them waterfront picking up persons going to Peter Island. At every port of entry you have persons or individuals who claim to be representing the Tourist Board.I personally think that the people who are involved with the Tourist Board have a clue as to their Job function. The Biggest problems at these Ports we have expatriates drivers,i keep saying this these people do not have no right being here in our livery and transportation services. If the Port Dispatchers had Knowledge of the road traffic act some of the problems that the bonifide Taxi drives face would be eliminated.45. (1) A person who prior to his or her arrival at a Port in the Territory has
pre-arranged for a taxi or livery service shall submit to the Port Dispatcher, his or
her voucher confirming the pre-arranged service.
    (2) The name on the voucher submitted under sub-regulation (1) shall be
matched with the taxi or livery service provider’s checklist before the service
provider is permitted to transport the person.its starts with enforcement.
