VIP Congress to address nasty power grab between Hons Fraser & Fahie

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Calling it unfortunate and discomforting that the business of the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) is “seemingly on public display,” President of the VIP Dr Natalio D. Wheatley aka Sowande Uhuru has said the embattled party will be convening a meeting of Congress with the aim of resolving the public spat over the Leader of the Opposition post between the incumbent Hon Julian Fraser RA (R3) and Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1), the VIP Chairman.

In a press release today, January 31, 2017, a day after Hon Fraser blasted the VIP for allegedly deceitfully ousting him as Chairman, Dr Wheatley said the party is committed to the process of mediation between the Chairman and Hon Fraser aimed at resolving the impasse between the two members.

“The Congress of the Virgin Islands Party is the supreme law making body of the party and should be afforded the respect that is deserved. A meeting of the Congress will be convened, the results of the mediation will be reported and Congress will make the final decision and chart a positive way forward.”

It is not clear what resolution the party Congress will seek to achieve as the infighting is mainly over Hon Fahie wanting to overthrow Hon Fraser as Opposition Leader even though that position is not for the party to decide on with Governor John S. Duncan OBE already appointing Hon Fraser as Opposition Leader.

Hon Fraser and the VIP are arguing that the Chairman of the VIP comes with the post of Opposition Leader, something Hon Fraser has refuted.

It is not clear at this time if Hon Fraser will agree to the “mediation.”

Virgin Islands News Online will keep you updated on this debacle facing the Virgin Islands Party.

See full content of press release by Dr Natalio D. Wheatley below:

"While it is unfortunate and discomforting that the business of the Virgin Islands Party is seemingly on public display, the members of the party and of the wider public are assured that the Virgin Islands Party shall emerge stronger and “Together We Will Rise.”

The party is committed to the process of mediation between the Chairman and Hon. Fraser aimed at resolving the impasse between the two members. The Congress of the Virgin Islands Party is the supreme law making body of the party and should be afforded the respect that is deserved. A meeting of the Congress will be convened, the results of the mediation will be reported and Congress will make the final decision and chart a positive way forward."

Hon Fahie LIE by claiming after having won the chairmanship that he was not interested in the Leader of the Opposition post. But now he wants it.

It makes him look wishy washy and brings the issue of trust that is why NO ONE CAN TRUST THE MAN

How comfortable would he be mediating with a congress that was literally hand picked to remove him. Was it necessary to fanciful remove the delegates? None of the Fs. Dawson better step up. Things that make you go hmmmmmm.

I think they made a mistake when they made Fahie chairman. I've said it so many times on these bloggs. Asking VIP to put up Mr Dawson or Ms Romney as Chair person... That were my Suggestion with good intentions...I think anyone of those two would be better than the existing two. Then again I do not know what the VIP Constitution says.

It's not just about the third seekabay. It's the entire population that does not want him as Premier. As chairman he will loose again. Get that through all you head. Move on Fraser move on. You don't own this country or the VIP party. Get your own party. VIP not for you. You can't get along just move on. I cry and I weep move on.

If a man has a wife that unfaithful, she made it clear she doesn't want him. No matter how much I love her. I'm out. Mr Frazer it's clear you are not wantedd. Bow out gracefully..

Fahie is only one man, he is not the party. By refusing to stop the fight over some post that the party cannot determine Fahie is proving to his many critics right all over again he can never be trusted again.

Also, believe in each other, you put in more effort when you are confident in each other, but the problem has been neither Fraser or Fraser believe in each other as the leader so there is where the dog dead

On what grounds should Fraser give up being leader of the opposition, which has nothing to do with being leader of a party?? Someone please give me a sensible answer if at all possible.
    • @answer me. VIP bigger than Frazer (31/01/2017, 19:25) Like (5) Dislike (2) Reply
He is not wanted. The party that is bigger than him doesn't want him to be Leader... No matter how much you love something or someone if you are constantly been told. I don't want you I don't love you. Isn't that enoughfor you to give up.
      • Answer Me (31/01/2017, 23:01) Like (0) Dislike (0) Reply
Once again.....being leader of the opposition has nothing to do with being the leader of the party!! Because it's only 2 of them he can leave the VIP and he might still be leader of the opposition. What don't you people understand? Leader of the opposition is not a party appointed position. He was appointed by the Governor, not the VIP Congress.

I always vote for Hon. Fahie even thought I am an NDP that is why he won so big in 2015 but I am not pleased with how he is handling this matter, seem selfish and power hungry.

How Fahie now making that statement about the Chairman should be the Leader of the Opposition and that was his stance months ago after he 2015 elections?

This man is power hungry. He will never be Premier. Let it go for the Party’s sake Bronx Bummer you have kill our hopes to change the government

    1. Please ask Fraser to leave the VIP party; and
    2. Let him keep the Leader of the Opposition title.

We have work to do, Fahie is chairman and we will build the party from there. Just leave Fraser alone nobody got to answer him.

"1. Please ask Fraser to leave the VIP party; and
      2. Let him keep the Leader of the Opposition title"

      Agreed.

That is the solution. Two Man rat can't live in one whole, the old saying goes. Time to move on Fraser...Are you afraid that you cannot do as well without the VIP umbrella? Under your leadership the VIP lost 2-11. Then in a quest to retain your leadership you lost 22-55. How much more confirmation you need that you are not wanted as leader, internally or externally of the VIP? The only solution is dissolution of this union due to irreconcilable differences. Trust is hard to build and even harder to rebuild.

Now the question is how will this work next election? VIP rep/NDP rep/Fraser the Independent in district 3. Fraser may well end up winning if the VIP and NDP reps split the vote. What happen if there is a 6-6 and Fraser is the deciding player. Scary, but maybe he could look at it that way.

Andrew and Natalio are being obstructionist to the progress of the VIP, which probably feels good but is, in the end, useless.
