Vincy cries foul in Digicel 2014 Cricket Competition
Despite the fact that the finals of the competition were successfully staged yesterday June 1, 2014 the team felt that they needed to let their supporters know of their dissatisfaction and protest to the organizers.
Speaking with Virgin Islands News Online one of the key persons behind the Vincy team who has asked not to be named at this time shared email correspondence that indicated their grievances. In a letter dated May 29, 2014 and addressed to the President of the BVI Cricket Association the team requested a net run rate breakdown.
An email attachment letter to the BVICA submitted by the Manager of the Vincy Team Mrs Tameka Johnson-Ollivierre states, “The Vincy Cricket Team is requesting a breakdown of the Digicel 2014 Cricket Tournament net run rates (NRR) for Games played by Vincy and games played by Cavaliers.”
The letter further went on the state, “The team is dissatisfied and feels that there could have been a miscalculation and requests a meeting. It would be appreciated if both teams can have representatives present at the meeting to be all clear on the results.”
Public Relations Officer of BVICA Mr Gordon French in response to the team blasted them claiming that he was surprised at the late request.
“The Super Six finished on the 18th May and to receive a "protest" on May 29th is well beyond any reasonable time frame, especially since this is just a few days before the finals is played,” stated French.
Nonetheless he stated in his response that the BVICA had looked at the request stating that the BVICA is not keen to meet with the teams to discuss the run rate.
“However, we have provided the run rate calculated for your team. The BVICA stands behind its decision and calculation of the net run rate. The teams who all scored 9 points remain the same with the Cavaliers ahead of the Vincy by a NRR of 2.74 to 2.22,” said French’s letter.
He reminded that the BVICA is first guided by the Leeward Islands Association, the West Indies Cricket Board and finally the International Cricket Council.
He also stated that under the rules of the game, a team's net run rate is calculated by deducting from the average runs per over scored by that team throughout the competition, the average runs per over scored against that team throughout the competition. In the event of a team being all out in less than its full quota of overs, the calculation of its net run rate shall be based on the full quota of overs to which it would have been entitled and not on the number of overs in which the team was dismissed.
The Vincy Cricket Team insists that that they are dissatisfied with the response from BVI Cricket Association as regards their request and the BVICA refusal to meet with them.
“After speaking with members of the Association, it was asked for us to request in writing as he had the right to do so. Now that we have done so, they are not rewarding us the information for which we seek,” said the Vincy source.
“The Vincy team said that they found the response from the Association bias, unclear and unfair. The Vincy Cricket team is calling on the BVICA to be transparent in their results,” they insisted.
Efforts to reach Mr French or President of the BVICA Mr Shan Mohamed for further details on this matter were futile.

There were local dignitaries at the game too. Geez- you small-minded buddy. BTW- I am local too!
Further more sports is not something you want to use to discriminate against anyone's nationality, because all the sports we play in the BVI was adapted from some other nationality. We don't have any sports of our own.
I am trying to understand your point. Why do you think they are protesting? You who have all the sense in the world should be able to figure out quite easily that it is because they calculated the net run rate and realise something is wrong. You, by all indication seem to be the dumb one. If you don't know anything, you need to keep quiet before you spout nonsense.
