ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - On January 1, 2020, the Virgin Islands (VI) welcomed two new bundles of joy, both of whom were baby girls, a release from the BVI Health Services Authority (BVIHSA) said.

The parents to the baby girls are Crystal Douglas and Jonathan Munro along with Vernisha Walters and Kareem Profitt

The first baby of 2020 was born at 11:08 am to Ms Douglas and weighed in at 7 pounds 6 ounces, and the other was baby Profitt who was born at 1:39 pm and weighing in at 4 pounds 9 ounces.

Special Moments

According to Ms Douglas, “The birth of my daughter on New Year’s Day was a special moment for me."

According to Ms Douglas, even though her baby was overdue, having passed the due date on December 27, 2019, she didn’t expect to give birth to the first baby of the year.

“It was a shock to me. There were other women in labour when I came, but I am happy,” Ms Douglas said.

Ms Vernisha Walters, the second mother, said that she was excited despite the fact that the baby came early. “Right now the baby is in the Neonatal Unit, but she is doing well,” she said.

Mothers rewarded

Both mothers received gift baskets and vouchers from Rite Way Supermarket compliments of the hospital. Mrs Douglas, the first mother, received an additional $300 Jump Start Account for the baby from the National Bank of the Virgin Islands.

Societal norm and it continues like a dark cloud of toxic smoke.
Children not given the gift of entry into life within the confines of marriage.
A vast contribution to the detriment of community and a people .A viscious cycle embraced and perpetuated. They come to build up?
