POLLENSA, Majorca, Spain- Virgin Islands (VI) sailor Thad A. Lettsome, who still has his eyes zeroed in on Olympic qualification, was in action again this month, competing at the Europa Cup in Pollensa, Spain.

Lettsome, who created history in July 2023, when he became the first sailor from the VI in 30 years to qualify for the Pan Am Games, finished in 25th position.

With 90 boats competing in the ILCA 7 it was an ideal training regatta ahead of the final 2024 Olympic qualifier in France in April.

2nd in first race of regatta

Thad came out firing on all cylinders, taking a second in the first race of the regatta. He continued to post results in the teens throughout the qualifying series of the regatta and in so doing raced in the gold fleet in the finals series.

Ultimately finishing in 25th position can be considered an encouraging result as Thad’s journey continues towards Olympic qualification.

Huge congratulations, Thad. That second place out of a fleet of 100 is excellent. Very happy for you that you ended up in the gold fleet and with a very decent finish.
