ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The Virgin Islands (VI) has secured the Best Luxury Destination in the Caribbean in Modern Luxury’s 2026 Travel Awards, solidifying its position among the Caribbean’s most sought-after destinations.

The announcement was made by the BVI Tourist Board and Film Commission in an April 24, 2026, press release. It said the accolade builds on the Territory’s strong momentum following its 2025 distinction as the Hottest Destination of the Year by the same publication.

Modern Luxury is one of the United States’ leading luxury lifestyle media companies (UVM: 137,757). The annual awards celebrate excellence across global travel, spotlighting standout destinations, properties, and experiences that define high-end tourism. Winners of the 2026 awards will be featured in the publication’s May 2026 print issue.

Award speaks to consistency of VI’s product- Mr McCoy

Director of Tourism for the British Virgin Islands Tourist Board & Film Commission, Mr Clive L. McCoy, said, “We are proud to once again be recognised by Modern Luxury, this time as the Best Luxury Destination in the Caribbean…These awards speak to the consistency of our product and the authentic, high-quality experiences that define the BVI. It is a testament to our industry partners and the people of the Virgin Islands who continue to deliver a standard of excellence that resonates with discerning travellers.”

The VI was named the Hottest Destination of the Year, while Oil Nut Bay’s Quintessa Villa was named Best Private Villa in the Caribbean in 2025.

The VI’s continued recognition by leading global travel publications reflects a broader trajectory of acclaim, the release added.

Recent publications recognising the destination and its tourism industry partners in their award rankings include US News & World Report, Caribbean Journal and USA Today Readers’ Choice Top 10 Awards.

Together, these accolades highlight the VI’s unique blend of natural beauty, exclusivity, and authentic Caribbean charm—qualities that continue to attract travellers from around the world.

You mentioned Oil Nut Bay, but what were the other BVI destinations that landed us in the top running?

Beautiful Third World Country. That privilege comes at a price. Minimum wage is $7.25 here and $12.00 in the civilised islands next to us.

Migration is a growing, vexing, concern across the globe, including developed, large, advanced countries, eg, US, UK, etc. There is a great divide between the Globe North and Global South, ie, wage, standard of living, quality of life, etc, disparities. Further, small locales such as the Virgin Islands ( British) cannot operate on scale and scope of developed, large countries.

Consequently, the VI like other small locales should exercise policy development , governing intelligence and increase the rating of its governing IQ.
