VI experiences island-wide power outage

POCKWOOD POND, Tortola, VI- The Virgin Islands, this morning June 28, 2019, experienced an island-wide power outage owing to a problem that occurred at the Henry Wilfred 'Freddie' Smith Power Station at Pockwood Pond.

Power went out at around 9:00am, including in Virgin Gorda and Jost van Dyke, but was restored sometime after 11:00am.

This was confirmed by General Manager of the BVI Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) Mr Leroy A. E. Abraham, who told our newsroom the power outage was due to a problem experienced at the Henry Wilfred 'Freddie' Smith Power Station.

Mr Abraham also confirmed the issue at the power plant has been rectified.
