VG woman allegedly choked, kicked & grabbed weave of cousin- court hears
Brown said she did not provoke the defendant when she assaulted her in the vicinity of their relative’s home in Virgin Gorda.
“I felt someone push me and held me by the throat from the back,” she said, adding that she was unaware at the time who her attacker was.
The VC said she tried pushing back but was “pulled by my hair, I had a ponytail, and she was pulling on the weave,” and when they fell on top of each other the defendant was still holding on to her neck and hair from behind, she claimed.
Family members eventually parted them and it was during that time the VC said she realised it was the defendant who attacked her.
The VC also testified that the defendant kicked her when she tried to retrieve her cellphone that had been knocked out of her hand during the incident.
“At first, I thought it was someone playing with me so I tried to push away the person. I had a headache, and a lower back pain that I still have; my natural nails and my acrylic nails came off.”
The VC then informed the court that the defendant also allegedly threatened to kill her.
WhatsApp argument
The VC said that she was once close with her cousin, but they had a previous altercation on WhatsApp more than five months ago, and this placed a somewhat strain on their relationship.
The conversation via WhatsApp was reported to the police by the defendant’s sister, the VC said.
Injuries
The Investigative Officer in the matter, Lenroy Samuel, who was attached to the Beat and Patrol Unit at the time, said he was on duty at the Virgin Gorda Police Station when he became aware of the report against the defendant.
He said he recorded a witness statement and observed injuries to the defendant’s person. These injuries included three nails broken to the flesh on her left hand and one on her right hand.
The VC had injuries to her head and knees, and after capturing them with his camera, he transported her to the clinic for medical attention.
