VALLEY, Virgin Gorda, VI- With just two more weeks remaining for the regular season games in the 2013 Virgin Gorda Summer Jam, much attention is already being placed on the upcoming All Star game between Virgin Gorda and Tortola.

The highly anticipated encounter will be played at the Jeffrey Caines Arena in Virgin Gorda on November 9, 2013.

Meanwhile, the Virgin Gorda Summer Jam Committee has announced the names of the players making up the two teams.

Defending Champions Tortola will be led by the likes of Ray Victor, Kennedy Bass, David ‘Bolo’ Lettsome and Steve Parillon, all very experienced players.

Virgin Gorda will have in their line-up the talented Jevon Demming, William Penn Jr and Devon Wattley.

Coordinator of the Virgin Gorda Summer Jam, Mr Trevor ‘West’ Stevens told Virgin Islands News Online that the Virgin Gorda team will go into training from next week.

According to a press release sent out earlier from sponsors of the VG Summer Jam, Delta Petroleum (Caribbean) Limited, Mr Stevens had said he was confident of a victory this year. He also noted that the selection of the Virgin Gorda team came about after painstakingly reviewing all the players.

Mr Stevens, according to the release, also said the Virgin Gorda side will not be repeating the same mistakes of the past two years and are ready to dethrone the defending champions.

Coach of the defending champion’s Tortola, Mr  Bash Brewley, reportedly stated at a press conference that Mr Stevens of the Virgin Gorda team seemed to be dreaming as there is no way that the Tortola All Star will allow the Virgin Gorda team to win the All Star Championship.

“He noted that his team has done it already and will do it again. He went on to say that the selection amalgamates the best players in Tortola and they will bring home for the second time the championship trophy to Tortola,” the press release stated.

The Virgin Gorda team includes Lee-Evans Jacob, Paul Bridgewater, Jevon Demming, Kelvin Samuel, Travis Isaac, Bodean Samuel, Shomar George, Garvin Stevens, Gary Hillhouse, Enrico Stevens, William Penn Jr and Devon Wattley. The Head Coach will be Ronald Norman and Assistant Coach Richie Morton.

The Tortola outfit will be made up of Kerry Thomas, Trevon Lewis, Jahmal Rabsatt, Ray Victor, David Lettsome, Cameron Young, Kennedy Bass, Rhennie Phipps, Cedric King, Asim Beazer, Steve Parillon and Rowan Victor.

The All Star affair will also see the usual Slam Dunk, Free throw and Three Pointer contests.

Regional General Manager of Delta Petroleum, Mr Bevis Sylvester congratulated all the players who made the All Star teams and encouraged those who didn't to continue to be All Star material.

“It is important to note that All Star is really the best within the best so the selectors have to go through the process and select but everyone can’t be on the team, only twelve players. I wish those chosen all the best," Mr Sylvester told Virgin Islands News Online.

He also said there would be several give-aways from gate tickets on game night and that Digicel will also be on board and will be sponsoring some of the prizes.

It was also stated in a Delta press release that persons who do not have a Delta loyalty card can register for one and receive the benefits on game night. Mr Sylvester explained that for any purchase of $20.00 or more customers can gain free entry to the game. This promotion begins October 29, 2013.

Meanwhile, Mr Stevens can expect a sold out crowd for the All Star night judging from the kind of support the Summer Jam has been receiving in the regular season.

“The games have been coming good. We have been getting good support,” Mr Stevens told Virgin Islands News Online.

Really and truly Virgin Gorda don't need a new basketball court.. We aint asking for all of that.. The type of environment is what makes VG basketball so exciting. All we need is for the court to be covered incase it rains and better bleachers and we are good.
