VG Festival Chair hails Committee’s 'success'

VG Committee Chair, Rupert Vanterpool Jr, expressed that his panel had achieved at least ninety per cent of the goals that it set for itself but felt that there were still a few areas that needed work. Photo: VINO
ROAD TOWN , Tortola, VI – Chairman of the Virgin Gorda Festival Committee, Rupert Vanterpool Jr, has determined that the Virgin Gorda Easter Festival was a success.

The Committee Chair expressed that his panel had achieved at least ninety per cent of the goals that it set for itself but felt that there were still a few areas that needed work.

According to Vanterpool, the Committee met with some amount of difficulty in having certain things readily available when the need arose. He listed examples of these as being generators and trucks.

“Basically it affected us greatly,” he said. The major issue he identified was having the items moved from the mainland of Tortola to Virgin Gorda due to the inaccessibility of boats to transport the required items.

“You can’t call last minute because there are no boats to bring it over from Tortola,” he noted, “that’s one of our shortcomings.”

Though there were approximately ten participants in this year’s Easter Festival Parade, the Committee Chair felt that the participation was ‘really great’ and thanked troupes such as Hugga Bunch, St Thomas Majorettes, Sebastian Majorettes and The Mungo Niles Cultural Dancers that made it all the way from St Thomas to participate in this year’s parade.

“The Committee did a good job… there’s always room for improvement and I appreciate each and every one of the committee members for coming out this year and doing their part,” Vanterpool added.

Vanterpool also thanked sponsors for their various contributions as well as members of the VI Festival & Fairs Committee who came over to assist in making the VG Festival a success.

Have you not been to a VG Parade before? What you think they be riding in? I recon the you take a look at pictures from the proceeding years. VG is not Tortola, where they have floats; though I think they should. But your point is outrageous. Then what would you say to St. Thomas, who have their Queen and her court [1st, 2nd, 3rd runners up] walking the parade route?

For your Information St Thomas do not have their Queen walking no parade route. The only time Queen in St Thomas gets off of the Float is when they walk into Post Office square. Get your Dawn facts together mehson.

I agree. The worse. Troupe from St. Thomas while in the parade had their members dancing to a boom box being held in the troupe leaders hand. What do we think they are going back to St. Thomas to say? I applaud them even though because they choose to continue in the parade. There was a troupe in orange costume, the parade was headed towards the festival village and they were headed in the opposit direction. Lord only knows what happened as to why they left and their costumes were so pretty. Epic Fail.

They were going the opposite way to catch their boat back to St. Thomas.... After all that wait for the parade to start, they were not missing the boat whether parade finish or not! Utter non-sense and poor organization!

Junior you got to be kidding me man!!!! no generator for festival? this has not been a problem for years. trucks and generators should be booked long before the weekend of festival.. you are making stupid excuses for your failures. you were not organized so wasn't your committee. your bad management resulted in an embarrassing jouvert and parade.. poor poor poor job done..

Problem stemmed from how Mr. Blyden dem treated the former committee and Chairman, Mr. Walters. If you rag me up don't expect me to assist you later. These committees behave like they have nothing to learn from the committee that preceded them. So they put themselves in the position to make the same mistakes that the previous committee and committees have made. Point in fact, (According to the school children den) if certain committee members volunteered last year and end up stealing money and the new committee accepts this same person again without getting a history from maybe the previous committee, then they are free to steal money again and again until this new committee moves them away from collecting money. And next year, they will volunteer to steal the committee's money again. Sad. Granny say, a smart committee learns from their mistakes and a wise committee learns from the mistakes of others.

You gotta me out of the flicking mind. This was one of the worst in years by far. Its obvious no planning was in place. No room books for your entertainers. Calling around for rooms at the last minute. No truck for the jouvert reason no jouvert on the road. No wete fete. No truck, sound system or generators for the parade. Majority of the troupes were from St Thomas and you have the heart call that a success. Its interesting to see what the report have to say in term of the financials for the festival...MB this one make you all look bad. The committee better wheel and come again or a revamp for next year...SMH....

How can this be a success? ??? This was the worst EVER in all my years coming to vg! After last years festival being so good and with your enthusiasm of making this year a rememorable one as president , i made it my utmost business to withness it. A total embrassment that needs to be added to the book of records that will forever be the talk of the town. The parade was the pitts, and this was the highlight of what everyone was looking forward to after such a lovely one was organized last year. You acknowledged the troupes from st thomas but what happen to the asps twirlers.

Hon., MB, and the deputy culture we the public needs to read the financial statements. If it had so much glitches we should have plenty money leftover out of 100, 000.

You try, But where is the banner Gumption was to have for the leading of Darvin Gorge Carnival? But don't think Darvin George would be happy with the way this carnival was run. Darvin was a very good man & was to have a carnival to ever re-call in a positive way. Knowing darvin, he would have said you try, "But" This need to be fix,Darvin deserve A true & real Carnival.

I blame ,Mr. N. W.....y. He said he would sponsor the jouvert, provide truck etc. and he did not come through. This put the committee in a spot very late. If he know he would not come through, he should have said so from early. He is from VG and should have want to see festival go right. Nevertheless, the committee would learn now to have a backup plan when they dealing with people like Mr. W........y. Rup... has to also learn to delegate. This was new to him but I guess he now understand you cannot do everything yourself. It was one of the worst festival in VG I have ever been to.
