The Order Paper noted that following proper procedures, the Minister with responsibility for telecommunications, Hon Kye M. Rymer (R1) has, after consultation with the Leader of the Opposition Hon Marlon A. Penn (R8), recommended to the Cabinet the appointment of Mr Vance M. Lewis as Chairman.

As such, Premier Fahie will move a motion at tomorrow’s sitting to appoint Mr Lewis as the Chairman of the Board, and he will also appoint Mr Vincent Wattley following similar recommendations to serve as Deputy Chairman for the same period.

The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) is a statutory body responsible for regulating the telecommunications sector of the  Virgin Islands which includes some four carriers, Flow, Digicel (BVI), CCT Global Communications and BVI Cable TV.

The former head of one of the phone companies responsible for overpriced under performance is now head of the Commission that should be pushing for improvements and reccomended changes. Vance was basically head of TRC under Mark as his advisor. We can all see how that turned out. This appointment is a complete waste of tax payer money. Expect Zero Change!

You are absolutely correct. Sad to say Vance is a nice guy but a complete waste of time when it comes to getting things done. Look at the pier park under his tenure as CEO.

There is no difference between the NDP and VIP. Don't you all see that? Same players, same game! We need to stop being so tied to a party because at the end of the day the are all the same. Government will never be the answer to every problem we face.

Who is regulating the regulators? TRC regulates a tiny industry but every single part of that (technology roll-out, price control, customer service, competition) is the worst. We have the most expensive internet service in the World. It would be better for BVI to save that money spent on TRC (which by the way is now taking on a whole other floor at L&M Business Centre) was given to community projects like YEP, FSN or VISAR, which actually make a meaningful difference to people's lives. TRC is not fit for purpose and needs to be shut down.
