USVI woman shot to death; Police investigating incident

LA VALLEE, St. Croix, USVI - A 22-year-old woman was found shot to death in a residence in La Vallee in the wee hours of Wednesday morning, USVIPD Public Information Officer Glen Dratte has announced.

While rumors and speculation have been making the rounds relative to the cause of death, the Police has classified the incident as a suspicious death, and said the investigation into what really occurred continues.

Suspicious Death

“It has been classified as a suspicious death… They haven’t concluded the case yet because it’s still under investigation. Police are investigating the incident deeply. Everybody is involved, including the commissioner. An autopsy needs to be done before any conclusion,” Mr. Dratte told The Consortium.

According to Public Information Officer, the 911 emergency call center was notified at about 3:20am this morning Wednesday, April 3, 2019, that a woman had been shot.

Upon arrival, officers met the unresponsive victim in the house, who was immediately transported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital where she was pronounced dead by a physician in the hospital’s emergency room.

The victim was identified by next of kin as A’shyra Sweeney.
