ST. CROIX, USVI - The USVIPD is on the hunt for a man who was witnessed shooting two dogs, badly injuring both of them, Public Information Officer Glen Dratte has announced.

According to police, on Sunday, July 23, 2019, at about 8:00 a.m., two dogs were shot in the area of Estate Jealousy and Midland Road by a black older male operating an older model Blue Dodge Ram. A witness was traveling east on Midland Road and heard a single gunshot followed by a second shot. The witness observed a blue truck as it stopped on the westbound lane and the two dogs around the truck bleeding, the police report said.

Police said the suspect drove away and the witness transported the dogs to a veterinary clinic for medical attention. At the clinic, X-ray photos showed fragments lodged on the right side of the first dog’s mouth and an entry wound on the left side of its face. The second dog sustained and entry wound on the right shoulder area, traveling across the chest and lodging on its left side after breaking a leg.

Both dogs were admitted and are in stable condition until surgery to remove the projectile and fragments. At the time of the incident, both dogs were wearing a collar which indicates that they have owners.
