FREDERIKSTED, St Croix, USVI- Police on Monday night, June 9, 2020, arrested 19-year-old Taylor Hasson of Grapetree Bay, St Croix, US Virgin Islands, on a Superior Court warrant in connection with the July 2019 incident where at least two men -- one of them Hasson -- were seen on video throwing Molotov cocktails at the Point Udall monument to ignite fires.

A Molotov cocktail, also known as a petrol bomb, gasoline bomb, bottle bomb, poor man's grenade, Molotovin koktaili, polttopullo, fire bomb, fire bottle or just Molotov, sometimes shortened as Molly, is a generic name used for a variety of bottle-based improvised incendiary weapons, according to Wikipedia.

He was arrested at 9:07 pm and charged with incendiarism, according to VIPD Public Information Officer Toby Derima.

The VIPD said other persons who participated have been identified, and the investigation continues into the incident.

Hasson's bail was set at $25,000, and he was released to a third-party custodian.

Last week Police Chief Sidney Elskoe said the police force was investigating the incident right after it occurred, but progress was hindered because of the coronavirus.

"The VIPD worked with the Attorney General's Office in acquiring an arrest warrant for the individual in the video," the chief said. "When we were ready to execute that arrest warrant, we learned that that person had relocated to the United States mainland. That coincided with the Covid-19 pandemic and because of that we were unable to send our officers safely to the United States to pick that person up," added the chief in response to a Consortium question seeking answers on the status of the investigation."

The VIPD is asking anyone with information about this incident to call 911, the Crime TipLine at (340) 778-4950, or anonymously to Crime Stoppers USVI here.
