CHRISTIANSTED, St Croix, USVI - A man was found dead just after midnight on Saturday, March 31, 2018, in the parking lot of the Ruby M. Rouse housing community, [US] Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) Public Information Officer, Glen Dratte announced on Monday, April 2, 2018.

According to Mr Dratte, the 911 emergency call centre received notification of discharging of shots in the Water Gut area. Upon officers’ arrival to the location, a man was found lying in the parking lot of the above-mentioned housing community, appearing lifeless with multiple gunshot wounds about his body.

Emergency medical technicians on the scene attempted to resuscitate the victim multiple times, but those efforts were unsuccessful, according to police.

The victim was identified by his mother as 24-year-old Alex Gonzalez. The incident is under investigation by police, according to Mr Dratte.

The VIPD is asking anyone with information about the shooting and homicide to call the Criminal Investigation Bureau tips line at 469-475-3871 or send an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers USVI here.
