CHARLOTTE AMALIE, St Thomas, USVI - The political establishment in the United States Virgin Islands (USVI) Democratic Party was shaken, as a the winner was announced to go ‘head to head’ with Governor Kenneth E. Mapp, in the November 6, 2018, Election for Governor.

Albert Bryan Jr and Tregenza A. Roach Esq, came out as the top Democratic Candidates for Governor and Lieutenant Governor respectively, during last night’s primary, with 3,093 votes.

Political observers who had favoured Allison Petrus aka “Allie’ as the front runner, were wrong.

Petrus out!

Businessman Petrus, came second along with his running mate Samuel Sanes with 2,624 votes.

Angel E. Dawson Jr, and Marise James, came in third with 2,122 votes.

The results from last night, Saturday, August 4, 2018, means Mr Bryan and Mr Roach, will be the only team to face off against Independent Candidates and the sitting Governor, Mapp, during the General Elections, in November.

This brings to an end the campaigns of the Petrus-Sanes and the Dawson-James teams.

Mr Roach is currently a senator in the 32nd Legislature and Mr Bryan is a former Commissioner for the USVI Department of Labour.

In yesterday’s vote, Democrats also voted for Senators for St Croix and St Thomas, along with persons for the Board of Elections.

Bryan/Roach will be the only Democratic team going up against the sitting gubernatorial team. However, there will be several other independent teams (at least four) in the general election. The race is on!
