US$193K contract awarded for rebuilding of A.O. Shirley Recreation Grounds perimeter wall

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- AC Construction Limited, owned by Mr. Arthur Corion, was awarded a contract of US$193,368.60 to rebuild the A.O. Shirley Recreation Grounds perimeter wall.

The contract was awarded by the Virgin Islands Recovery and Development Agency (RDA) and is a collaborative effort with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture Virgin Islands, the BVI Olympic Committee and the BVI Athletic Association. along with the BVI Olympic Committee and the BVI Athletic AssociationVirgin Islands, the BVI Olympic Committee and the BVI Athletic Association.

Minister for Education, Culture, and Youth Affairs  Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) said that he is pleased to see this project off the ground for the benefit of the athletes, students, and the wider community.

Honourable Wheatley said, “The erection of this wall will bring the reconstruction project of the A. O. Shirley Recreation Grounds closer to a restored stage. This will give persons who use the track a sense of privacy and security when using the premises; but above everything, our athletes will be able to practice their different disciplines of sport in a safe environment as their sense of pride and peace of mind is once again reinstated”.

The reconstruction of the wall was included in Phase One of the rehabilitation plan for the grounds, while the refurbishment of the track was the first part of the Phase One recovery. The completion of the perimeter wall, will take the A. O. Shirley Recreation Grounds one step closer to re-establishing a Level Two status.
