ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Sons and daughters of the Virgin Islands' soil continue to perform exceptionally well in the academic field, which speaks well for the Territory and the students' personal development.

Twelve students attending the University of the Virgin Islands, St. Thomas Campus, were inducted on Sunday March 17, 2013 into the Golden Key International Honour Society for their high scholastic achievements.

The students are K'desha Bloice, Ebony Browne, Cara Christopher, Sandra Daniel, Desirae Farrington, Briana Henley, Rennea Powell, Lesa Royer, Latisha Scatliffe, Kimberlee Smith, Sarai Smith, and Bernard Taylor.

Four of the twelve students will be graduating in May 2013; Cara Christopher, who is pursuing a Bachelor ’s Degree in Psychology having started August 2012 (Fall Semester) and Desirae Farrington, who is reading for a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration Concentration in Computer Information Systems and started in August 20, 2011 (Fall Semester). The areas of studies for Briana Henley and Sandra Daniel have not yet been confirmed by Virgin Islands News Online.

The ceremony, held at UVI’s Administration and Conference Center, attracted the presence of the UVI Alumni, government officials, family, friends and Golden Key Honourary Members who came out to share in this special occasion.

Speaking from her US Virgin Islands home, one of the students, Latisha Scatliffe said that at Sunday’s induction ceremony, the keynote Speaker was Dr. Orville Kean, President Emeritus, who said “in order to achieve academic excellence you need discipline.”

Ms Scatliffe said that what motivated her at Golden Key were the three signature elements of Academics, Leadership and Service. She said that she personally loves the academic statement which reads “At Golden Key, we are more than good students; we are scholars. We believe in the power of knowledge to transform lives and change situations for the better. We enjoy academic challenges and strive for excellence in our fields. We are not bookish; we are learned.”

Latisha Scatliffe is currently reading for a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a Concentration in Management, which she started in January of 2012 during the spring semester and will be completed in December 2013.

Among the others for whom we were able to conform their areas of studies are Rennea Powell and Bernard Taylor, who are pursuing their Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a Concentration in Management and both will complete in December 2013. Sarai Smith is working at obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing. She started in January 2013 and will complete in December 2013.

Golden Key International Honour Society provides academic recognition to the top 15% performing college and university students, as well as scholarships and awards, career and internship opportunities, networking, service and leadership development opportunities.

Golden Key International Honour Society, established in 1977, is the world’s premier collegiate honour society, with nearly 2 million students and alumni members. Presently, the Society has 400 campus-based chapters worldwide.
