ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - The management of the parking lot at Bolo’s Store and Bobby’s Supermarket is sending a strong message that it is very serious about the use of its parking lot in Road Town.

Just a few days after installing a security bar and new parking rules, many watched with mixed emotions as a vehicle was towed away on July 10, 2017.

According to information reaching our newsroom, the vehicle had exceeded the one hour parking stipulation and, after valiant efforts to locate the driver or owner failed, the tow truck was called in and the vehicle hauled away.

New parking system implemented at Bobby's Parking Lot

A new system has been put in place at the Bobby’s/Bolo’s parking lot to regulate vehicular traffic.

Persons are now required to inform the guard which of the three stores they will shop; either Bolo’s Department Store, Bobby’s Supermarket or Vanterpool's Pharmacy. Persons are allowed to park in the already congested parking lot for no more than one hour.

The new parking restriction became effective today, July 7, 2017.

Meanwhile, it is our understanding that there is a proposal on the table to build some paid parking lots in Road Town through the Ministry of Communications and Works. However, the National Democratic Party (NDP) administration has been mum on the issue.

Good idea - will make it easie to shop at Bobbies.
The Govt needs a tow truck to take away all the badely parked vehicles in the middle of car parks in Road Town. The area near to labour is a disgrace - cars parked down the middle of the car park blocking in cars in proper spaces.

That is actually a good idea to regulate how many people are in the parking lot to safely maneuver. It is a nightmare just to get out. Too many silly and small minded people in this Territory. Overseas they welcome anything but locally they criticize everything. How the hell do we expect to progress. The shareholders brought solutions to the problem. How many of you nay sayers went to them and offered solutions???

You got to be some special type of retarded. Clearly you don't read well. The parking lot is for customers of ALL 3 stores! Bobbys, Bills and Vanterpool's. You do not need to "tell the guard" that you're going to another one of the three stores... and you have an hour to park! I think that's reasonable

Honey! Ignorance won't get you far! Where ever you choose to shop is your business but what you're saying makes absolutely no sense. If you're using the parking lot, all they're asking you is to stick within the hour parking time. Let's say you shopped Bobby's and it took you 45 minutes, and you have to go Bolos or Vanterlools; considering their new parking rule, simply let the security know and I'm sure something can be arranged. You know that parking is an overall issue in Road Town in - join in the effort because now, you too are sure to get a spot when shopping in the vicinity.

Police wouldn't get involved, you stay there unreasonably, get the tow truck and pull that over by the cay and leave it there. Crank, crank, crank, click, click all over Road Town. I bet you will obey the rules. People go all over the place and pull a ticket to park, but they want to do craziness here. They go at TB Lettsome, they pull a ticket and pay when they leave. None asking you to pay, but you don't want to obey. Well then feel in your pockets then.

Once I have to do business anywhere on the way I park at the festival grounds and take foot from there. The people are so spoiled that they have to park right in front of the door of the building they're going to. I admit that parking can be a dilema and coming from a country where public transportation is well thought out (Canada) I have trouble adjusting here to the local custom of anything goes. I will never drive into downtown Toronto as I would have to pay to park which is not cheap. I migrate here and I am more than happy to park in a safe public area and walk the rest (unless I have heavy bags)

Sometime next week, I will be shopping at both establishments for birthday party supplies. This is going to take more than an hour. Can bolos and Bobbys please advise if in the middle of picking up items, if I am suppose to leave the shopping care in the isle and run out to the parking attendant to let him know I'm still shopping, or should I get my car towed while supporting the same businesses.

I have no issue with adhering to parking rules as it is common procedure overseas, especially in Canada, but Need to know so I can know what to do before hand in this situation.

@please advice, if your hour is up, how about paying for another hour. If I was shopping and my hour is up, I would pay for another hour. It is the same as a parking meter. If your meter time is up, you put more money in the meter/feed the meter. You don't, you car will be towed.

Why are people here so resentful of rules and law and order? Adults at that! These are simple rules the business owner has introduced so that patrons of his business can have parking. When I shop at Bobby's, I make it a point of parking in the lot across the street and not in his parking lot because it is usually a zoo in there, with people especially the taxi drivers parking without any regard for other users of the lot. Are the naysayers suggesting that this should be allowed to continue??? Why should you be allowed to park in that lot if you are not doing business there? Eh?? Parking rules and regulations exist everywhere else in the civilized world. And I would bet my last dollar most of us abide by them when we travel. Why should they not exist and be abided by here? I applaud Elton for finally doing what needed to be done eons ago and I hope that Riteway Pasea follows suit. Parking wardens definetly need to be in that Riteway parking lot to deal once and for all with the selfish, inconsiderate, illegal parking that happens there on a daily basis.

More businesses need to tow. Just this week I saw a lady who works at the SSB park in front of the building where MoneyGram is. She took up two spaces. Someone pointed it out to her and she shifted her car. Imagine my shock when she got out, crossed the road, and walked in the direction of the post office! LOL.
