UPDATE: Runners/Walkers ‘light it up’ for Special Needs adults
The event was an initiative of Vigilant Stars in aid of persons with special needs and a number of persons turned up in support of it.
Runners and walkers made their way from Captain Mulligan's to Manuel Reef and back to Captain Mulligan's.
As it approached 5.30pm persons of all shapes and sizes started to arrive at the registration table at Captain Mulligan's.
Following some minutes of warming up and preparing, participants took off around 6:10 pm.
After the Run/Walk, some of the persons who took part were able to win prizes in a raffle. The prizes mostly comprised gym memberships and personal training packages at health and fitness clubs.
Esther N. Fraser of Vigilant Stars told this news site that the event was a success. “Today was a great event. I don’t have the final numbers as yet but we had a lot more participants than we had preregistered initially. We had about 40 persons preregistered and we had quite a lot of walkers today,” she said.
“It was all for BVI Services….we are going to donate the funds to them and it was great to get out into the community and support a great cause,” said Fraser. She said that the public will know in due course of the other events the organisation plans to have in the near future.
Speaking to this news site on September 23, 2015, Worthy Matron of the Vigilant Stars, Gemi P. Evans had said it is the first time the group was doing such an event.
“It’s the first of its kind as far as us hosting one. We’re doing it in order to assist the adult programme for Social Development. You know we have [adult] special needs persons and…we are going to donate some of the funds raised towards them,” Evans had told Virgin Islands News Online.

These people think that we are in the dark age. With all the information out there about the lodge, people who have been lodge members and excaped with their life are warning about this group and we are support to ignore all of that and fall for the facade of philanthropy. Because you mention god, that should make a different? Be aware that we all know that there are many gods. Which of them are you referring to? I love the way you keep repeating "must". The next thing you would tell us is that there are pastors who are lodge members. Guess what we know that too. Not everyone that says LORD LORD shall enter. Lots of wolves in sheep's clothing.
Yeah?? how about checking abuse of children under the Sh...ers Hospital??
How is it persons professing to be Christians... followers, disciples of Christ seem to be such amazing authorities on the devil, his imps, his habits etc?!! How much time did Christ spend talking about the devil? Even when he was being tempted... where was his focus? I know someone is going to say " you have to know your enemy", and I can understand and even agree to some degree... but staying on point. You "experts" remind me of the time Jesus healed on the Sabbath (mark 3 1:6) and was taken to task for it by the Pharisses. Since when is it a sin to do good? How can doing good, showing love and compassion be evil?
But of course we all know that. Why are you who profess the be followers of Christ, so petrified by the devil anyway? WE know there is one source, one power, over heaven and earth and all between. Unless some of you are in the closet as "double agents" ...moles within religious organizations with the intent of promoting propaganda and utilizing divide and conquer tactics. Why not promote love, unity, peace, harmony among ALL? Why not support the walk/run and let YOUR light shine instead of this? How has your less than positive contributions helped this initiative? But of course we all know the answers to these questions. SiStars... keep shining, keep walking in the light. I will ever look to the East... I see you! *wink wink wink* I leave these verses for ALL to ponder.
"the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not"
John 1:5
"And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me."
Matthew 25:40
"Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal."
