BALSAM GHUT, Tortola, VI- The June 1, 2017 incident that resulted in a security guard and an inmate receiving injuries at Her Majesty 's Prison in Balsam Ghut had the potential of escalating into a major one, according to a source at the prison.

It is our newsroom’s information that during the altercation, which saw a prisoner wounding an officer, several other inmates rushed to overpower the officer.

"This was going all the way up to a major riot in here," related one inside source; however, the situation was quickly dealt with as other prison officers rushed to the scene and arrested at least two other inmates and took them into confinement.

The wounded officer was treated and discharged from Peebles hospital. It is not clear if any of the prisoners involved were charged.

Police Information Officer Diane Drayton had confirmed to this news site on June 1, 2017 that police were “investigating the incident.”

Ever so often on the internet it always an inmate attacking an officer what is really going up there where is the Honorable Walwyn and Foot in all of these incident nothing been put in place to correct these kinds of situation. This place is crazy officers risking their lives goin to work everyday to be going through this kind of crap. The government needs to address these situations before they end up killing each other.

Dont blame Mr Foot for what going on at the prison at all blame BVI SYSTEMS because when a person goes to jail he belongs to the crown but in this NATURE LITTLE SECRETS the prisoner has more power than the PM himself .because first them dont look like prisoners at all them need jumpers mark with prison no shoes and a cap i see prisoners in more gold and brand name cloths baggy pants and when them out on appointments them families girl friends and partners in crime coming to visit and hug chat and exchange stuff which is not within the law. there is to much friendly behaviour between prisoner and prison officer in public and when a prisoner can send an officer to buy snacks for him what nx will he do si the whole place needs a massive shaking up and act like a jail. eat the food cook or drink water and bread if you dont want it stay out of jail. these prison officers are to friendly with prisoner and their families and spouses so it the whole of BVI to blame for what goes on at the prison but it boils back to the ruling parties.

Correct me if I am wrong, but you sound like you are the most PERFECT human being to ever walk the face of this earth. So perfect that you have appointed yourself Judge & Jury. Must be nice.

FYI not because someone goes to prison makes them a horrible person and it certainly does not mean they shouldn't have any rights whatsoever. Prisoners aren't necessarily bad and officers aren't always good. And you sound very ignorant when you talk about the girlfriend or families that visit them. Obviously they see the good in that person, they see a side of them and others don't so why are you so upset? People like you are very unhappy with your life and don't have a choice but to sit and judge others. Don't worry, when you are fully matured you will think differently.

There are too much violence taking place at that institution far too often. You are not even hearing measures been put in place to help combat them, guess until someone gets kill be it an inmate or an officer.

we have to realize that the head alone cannot make a change they have to get help from their management team. putting all politics aside the whole prison staff and police force has to unite for the British virgin islands to see any change in those institutions. they have to work with the same goal in mind. we also as a community has to help them uphold whatever rules that are made for the public to follow also being willing to offer the necessary information needed to keep the bvi safe.#thinkingoutloud

Our human race is in such a turmoil. We are all fighting against each other. If we all take away the anger and vengeance we possess within our minds we will have a peaceful world where we can all live out our lives enjoying our so very short stay on this earth. We sit and blame this person and that person when if you sit and contemplate, look at the bigger picture, it is left to each and everyone one of us to work on ourselves to make it all better. This is too deep for some of us to understand because some stay on the surface of our minds and are not able to focus on the root cause of all our conflict. Our egos rule our behaviors. Start working on yourself to be better, if each of us can do that the problems will not exist. Blessings!
