SEA COWS BAY, Tortola, VI – The Governor’s Cup which is expected to be held in St Thomas, USVI next month is clearly the main thing on the horizon following yesterday’s (April 13, 2014) win at Ellis Thomas for the L&B Stables prize champion horse, Really Uptown.
Despite the heavy trash talk preceding the race of Town Hall taking the proverbial ‘crown’ from Really Uptown, this was the kind of race that did not trouble co-owner of L&B Stables Violet ‘Letty’ Hodge.
“Of course, I have to defend my Governor’s Cup, I need another one,” Hodge responded when asked about what was next on the Horizon for Uptown.
“I feel wonderful. I feel very good about it. I’m glad to see that [Really Uptown is] OK and everybody will see that he is like how he was and it’s unbelievable,” Hodge said after the exciting victory.
The horse led from the gate and finished the sprint at a near canter for the feature event of the Easter races at Ellis Thomas Down in a time of 1:30 ahead of Town Hall in second place and Ethelred in third.
“I knew he was coming out [with the win]. I just know it was going to be proven [yesterday] on the track,” Hodge stated.
Commenting on the timing of Uptown’s return, Hodge related that the horse came back for several reasons, including proving a point to the doubters of Uptown’s power and also to give it a warm up for the upcoming Governor’s Cup in St Thomas. “[It was] to prove a point and to show that he’s back on his feet and he’s ok,” Hodge added.
Earlier, Kaylen Wild Kat won the first race of the day; while Buy Buy Buy won the second and Miss Homer took the third.
