UPDATE: Men held in Sweeney & Stevens murder probe released
Sweeny, 24, and Stevens, 26, were riddled with bullets while in a rental vehicle near the Althea Scatliffe Primary School in Road Town, Tortola on February 10, 2018.
Police; however, disclosed via a press release today, March 16, 2018 that the men taken for questioning were released.
“Both men have been discharged pending further investigations,” police stated.
The men held and released were a 25-year-old from West End and a 32-year-old from Free Bottom, both on the main island of Tortola.

2 held in relation to murder of Clevaughn M. Sweeney & Michael Stevens
Over a month after 24 year old Clevaughn M. Sweeney and 26 year old Michael Stevens were killed execution style in the vicinity of the Althea Scatliffe Primary School in Road Town, Tortola on February 10, 2018, two men have been held as investigations continue.
According to the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force today, March 15, 2018, officers of its Major Crime Team today arrested a 25-year-old from West End and a 32-year-old from Free Bottom, on suspicion of murder in relation to February’s double homicide.
The RVIPF said; however, that no further information could be provided.
Our newsroom has the names of the 2 men arrested but will not publish at this time.
Virgin Islanders Sweeney and Stevens were in a rental car around 4:00 A.M. on Saturday February 10, 2018 when they came under heavy gunfire and were killed.
Police sources confirmed that both died on the spot.
Sweeney was laid to rest on March 10, 2018.
