UPDATE: Hart & VC allegedly had misunderstanding while at HM Prison

-Stabbing victim denies he owed alleged attacker money

The trial proper of Matthew Hart finally got started in the High Court today May 15, 2013 before Justice Kelvin John and saw the Virtual Complainant taking the stand.

The case was initially scheduled to commence on Monday May 13, 2013 when Hart was pleaded but was subsequently put off for two days to allowing the legal personnel concerned to deal with issues of the law before proceeding with the trial.

Hart is being tried for allegedly inflicting grievous bodily harm on Ivan L. Govia on July 27, 2012 while at the Festival Grounds in Tortola.

The incident allegedly occurred on the night of the virtual complainant's birthday. In giving testimony, Mr Govia told the court that on the night in question he was approached by the accused, Matthew Hart, who had requested $5 of him. He said he had asked the accused if he wanted something to eat but he insisted he need the cash which was denied by Govia.

According to Govia, Hart had seemed "hyped" that night as if he was under the influence of Marijuana.

Govia alleged that shortly after his interaction with the accused he felt a sharp object to the right side of his back, turned around and noticed Hart with what he believed to be a jagged edged knife before passing out and being taken to hospital.

The VC told the court that he had known Hart and that they had shared a cell at Her Majesty's Prison where he (Govia) was being held for possession of Marijuana.

During his testimony, Govia denied owing Hart any money, using threatening language against him, trying to take off the defendants pants while at the festival ground and having any physical altercation while they were prisoners at Her Majesty's Prison. He, however, did admit that they had an argument while in prison and that it ended with Hart leaving the cell.

Appearing for the crown was Tiffany Scatliffe and Leslie Ann Faulkner while Charmaine R. Rosan-Bunbury appeared for the defendant.

The crown has indicated its intentions of calling two other witnesses to give testimony- A police constable, who was the arresting officer on the night in question, and the investigating officer.

This is why People should take care of and support their siblings. sometimes when they loose their way, all they need is your concern, care and even offer them a warm bed in your home. These things can help prevent lonliness, crime addiction and other ills of life. Don't make sense you living good and see family struggling.

This guy has a great mother and sister who loves him and support him till they tired now. What else can you do when you have tried all you can and done your best. At the end of the day, individuals make their own choice to use or not to use mind altering drugs, and when a persons becomes addicted, they no longer belong to themselves, or their families - they belong to the drugs that keep them hostage and hold them in bondage.

Don't forget his brother as well......I know the family and they are always there for Matthew so i agree with you 100% these bloggers keep writing mostly on suspicion/assumption and barely on the facts..... stop beating on his care because on like most of those persons on the road he has a lot of his family support you will never see or hear them deny him or turn their backs on him due to pride........ the one that persons should be bashing on is the person that is supplying him.....It takes a really strong person that was once addicted to turn their backs away......

I know Mattthew well we used to call him Mango and his brother Pumpkin when they were kids, nice folks nice family.Trouble is, no father figure,I believe he was a white man who passed away, no one to guide them.Sure James the elder brother is good but Matthew let gone for sure,He needed someone at that time of youth to guide him and he had none, mother and sisters are not enough when you are a young man looking for life.Matthew has a good heart but his waywardness has now lead him to being subsidised by HM Gov't at His M Hotel on the Hill. This is why we should come up with a programme to put these young men who essentially are harmless to do some work for the country for FREE. So they can FREE THEIR MINDS.and then give back what they willing steal by being idiots by mistake..
