UPDATE: Man accused of attempted abduction said he only wanted back his $70
Eyewitnesses had told Virgin Islands News Online (VINO) that they heard a woman screaming at a bar on Saturday night, June 20, 2020, and had allegedly observed the accused “touching” the woman.
The woman had also told persons the man tried to grab her purse.
A similar story was reportedly told to police by the woman.
The man; however, denied attempting to force the woman into his car but confessed that he was seeking to take the woman’s purse to get back his $70 she had for him.
Police reportedly assisted the man in retrieving his money and sternly warned him to stay away from the woman, to which he agreed.

Man attempts to abduct girlfriend as 'pandemic love affair' turns bitter

A woman is said to be fearful for her life, alleging that her now estranged boyfriend attempted to abduct her from her place of work last evening, June 20, 2020.
The woman, who works at a bar on Tortola, reported to police that the man came to her place of work, grabbed her and attempted to force her in a car but his attempts were unsuccessful as she fought him off.
According to reports reaching Virgin Islands News Online (VINO), the two had started a love affair in March or early April and, during the period of the territory-wide lockdown, the man moved in with the woman at her Baughers Bay home.
Red flags
During that period of living together, the man reportedly exhibited "harassing tendencies" which, according to the woman, made her life very uncomfortable in her own home.
Things took a bitter turn yesterday, June 20, 2020, when the woman was preparing to head to work. According to reports, the accused took the woman's car keys and cell phone and left.
The woman was forced to lodge a complaint at the Road Town Police Station before making her way to work.
Sometime later the man turned up at the police station and informed police he had since taken the woman's keys and phone to her place of work and asked that they accompany him to retrieve his belongings from her home as she wished to end the relationship.
Police escorted the man, as requested, to collect his belongings.
Attempted abduction
Sometime after 9:00 pm; however, it is alledged the accused returned to the women's workplace, accosted her and attempted to force her into a vehicle.
The incident was witnessed by several persons on the scene at the time.
Up to press time, it's not known if the accused has been found by police.
