ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- “I am so excited, I can hardly explain it,” were the words of Erika R. Creque shortly after she was crowned Miss BVI 2016/17 at the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex just after 12:00 A.M. on August 1, 2016.

Creque, who hails from Great Mountain on the Virgin Islands main island of Tortola, beat out competition from three other contestants, sweeping awards for Best Promotion, Best Swimwear, Best Cultural Costume, Best Talent and Best Evening Wear.

Additionally, she received prizes for Most Photogenic and Most Poised.

According to Creque, it means a lot to her to win the crown and the territory can expect many good things from her reign. She vowed to promote the Virgin Islands more and practice daily for her next stage, which is Miss Universe.

She added that the journey to being crowned Miss BVI was not a smooth one but being victorious is “a big deal.”

Asked what led her to enter the competition, Creque revealed that it was the love for her territory.

Prizes & Awards

Miss BVI 2016/17 will receive a number of prizes, including a scholarship grant, a cash prize of $7,500 and will get the opportunity to represent the territory at Miss Universe pageant.

The First Runner-up, Reba E. Thomas, will receive $5,000 among other prizes.

Thomas also took the award for Most Intellect.

The CCT People’s Choice award went to Lakiesha R. A. Claxton, while the Miss Congeniality award went to Mindy A. Paul.

The show was judged by 1995 Miss Universe Chelsi Smith, 2013 Miss Universe Jamaica Kerrie Bayis, and Model and Actor Hector Lincoln, among others.

The way you write makes me think you wrote the same thing when Ms Claxton didn't win VG in 2014 She wasn't the judges choice either time and it is their choice that wins, not who you want to win. You must be her family to keep it going for two years.

Where are your full-stops and commas? This was very difficult to read!!! The show was judged fairly. Please let it go and move on. Erica will do a fine job as Miss BVI 2016-2017. I do agree that the festival committee is garbage, but Erica deserved all that she got.

It was really close. I thought #4 would have gotten first runner up though, but of course there are things that happen before the show that must be taken into consideration.

I feel you on this!!!! The Mindy girl doesn't have enough body for her dress, so she looked ridiculous. Overall, she just looked lifeless...BORING!

Reba had a nice dress, but it just wasn't for her. I can see it on the Claxton girl.

Creque, had a nice dress for her complexion and her body structure, however, I thought the girls would come better tho

#4 should run for Miss Jr. BVI. She was too young anyways, she needs to build herself up first and then maybe go back for Miss BVI in 2-3 years. Focus on getting that degree from UWI. Your early twenties is your time to get an education. So finish your degree, then run again to get the scholarship for your masters.

I don't like seeing these young ladies in their late teens and early twenties wasting their life away on these pageants. When your reign is over no one cares that you were Miss _______. Hell, no one cares if you are one during your reign. It doesn't give you a higher paying job down the road; it's not a qualification. This is the BVI, pageantry does little for you. Look at EP, she was Miss BVI once upon a time, but who cares? She got her qualifications by getting an education, not from her crown.

The show was so disgusting and disorganized let's be real now do u all believe that creque deserves that crown I came from rock and sat and watch and Claxton contestant # 4 was so relax and free she gave it all as for rocking the heels she never stumble or shake she was real organise her introduction was off the hook as for swimwear she rocked it her talent was incredible her dress was jus ok the sequence on dress was perfect not to much the only problem with Claxton dress is the train was place properly. I always attend ms BVI this one was the worst and so very unfair the committee should and needs to do better than that and the government of the BVI needs to do better they needs to get involved cause it unfair to Claxton cause she did it all the intellect was given to the correct contestant but creque u won't sleep well very well u should kn u didn't work for that crown it was sold to u I want to tell Claxton keep your head up and I love you from time I saw you in your introduction great job to Claxton Paul talent was also surprising and Welles put together

Obviously you don't know shit bout pageantry. Claxton was a hot mess. Her voice is horrible. She's definitely not a good representative for my territory. She's still young and needs tons of coaching. Creque won the crown because she worked for it and she deserved it. Of course she will sleep well you old evil crocked minded fool. It's the judges decision and the judges decisions are final. Take the loss for Claxton and move the hell on. Go Team Creque!!

Miss, you don't even know what you are talking about. Lakiesha did well, but not well enough. What you saw at the show was only part of it; they are also scored before the show. In addition, the judges were international, which meant they had no ties to the BVI, and could be objective. So stop trying to start something out of nothing.

wat do u mean number for was dead u need to speak the truth if only u mixing #4 with the dead #1 and the dead #3 plz gf claxton had the show going u all have a bad ting for claxton cause u all kn she have it all all the girls were pretty but u all needs to stop bashing claxton if only u knew the whole story bout dat show u would think before u post claxton introduction was excellent and she dance peacefully and she had confident written all over her claxton will show the BVI that she a queen dont give up claxton u dont kn who i am but am fully on ur side and i love ur spirit i dont kn if anyone notice when claxton headpiece throw her out she continued gracefully and calm she jus didnt walked off the stage she did it with respect manners polite and calm u all are really blind
  • MY OPINION (02/08/2016, 09:59) Like (6) Dislike (5) Reply
I was at the show and I was backing all the contestants. My personal judging is as follows:
    Introduction: Reba, Erica
    Cultural wear/costume: Claxton, Reba
    Gown: Reba
    Swimwear: Erica
    Question and answer:Reba
    Talent:Paul, Claxton
Overall based on the contestants physical build, looks and how they presented themselves..I would choose Erica with Reba coming in a close second.
In my opinion the crown is on the correct head but she did not deserve to win all those segments.
    • agreed (04/08/2016, 09:44) Like (1) Dislike (0) Reply
she presented herself well. but did not deserve all the segments. but the crown is on the right head. and reba deserves second.

I was also at the show i do agree with you some what I dd the same as you and my personal judging i did pay attention closely
      INTRODUCTION: Claxton

GOWN: Claxton, Reba gown was also lovely but she didnt walk it

      SWIMWEAR: Claxton

      INTERLECT: Reba all the way

      TALENT: Paul, Claxton

      POISE: Erika

And again all the girls tried their best i applause them all but in my opinion they couldnt give Claxton what she worked for and deserve because she would have gone home with the crown, but it is very unfair did anyone else observe what was going on with Creque earrings getting stock in her dress where she pause three times trying to get it remove how may times did she trip on the stage in her heels especially in swimwear i personally believe the judges wasnt honest and fair but it is what it is

u need to say y she's not a good ambassador for her country where she was born and raised and u all stressing about her age but she wasn't too young when the festival committee invited her on board y don't u take ur ass up on stage lets us see u make a dammm fool of urself ayo just jealous and have hatred but with u or without u claxton don't be left behind she's going higher let Erika the virgin mary tells u bout her private life and when u find out come back and comment again GOOD LUCK

All this negativity about these contestants. Why?? Oh yeah typical BVI. And yet we wonder why our country isn't making much head way. Now, I have been to the show, and it was FAIR. The crown is where it should be so why all this back biting? I don't like this last comment about digging into our Queen's back ground and finding dirt. This just shows that you are just a sad individual who is just bitter. All the contestants did their best and we should be thankful that they even accepted to be apart of this show. So please stop throwing stones and instead let's put them together in the hopes of building a foundation to support our queen and our country which she will embark on representing.
