HoA to continue Monday Dec 11, 2017
The Eleventh Sitting of the Second Session of the Third House of Assembly (HoA) of the Virgin Islands will continue on Monday December 11, 2017.
The HoA last met on Thursday December 7, 2017 at Ritter House in Wickham’s Cay II on Tortola and was able to pass the Marriage (Amendment) Act 2017, which will allow visitors to the Virgin Islands to tie the knot on the same day of arriving to these shores.
The Act (Cap 272) was previously amended on September 3, 2012, to allow couples to get married 24 hours after arriving to the Territory.
Legislators are now debating the Limited Partnership Act 2017, which is expected to be wrapped up this Monday.
The objective of the Limited Partnership Act 2017 is to help the Territory market limited partnerships as another investment opportunity.
Bills already passed at this Eleventh Sitting of the Second Session of the Third HoA, are the Continuity of Business Act 2017, formerly Financial Services (Special Circumstances) Act 2017; the Micro Business Companies Act, 2017; and the Marriage (Amendment) Act 2017.
The public, civil society and the media have long complained that Bills are introduced in the House of Assembly (HoA) without proper explanation by the mover of the bills, public meetings for input from stakeholders and an attempt to explain to the ordinary man and woman how the legislation will improve their lives.
