CHARLOTTE AMALIE, St Thomas, USVI – Swagg Daddy shocked hundreds of horseracing fans by overtaking last year’s Governor’s Cup champion Really Uptown at the half of the feature event of the St Thomas Carnival Races yesterday, May 2, 2014 for a lead that was never relinquished.

Uptown eventually finished sixth, in last place, in a race that many expected would only be a two horse race between the returning champion and Admission which finished in fifth place at the Clinton E. Phipps racetrack in St Thomas yesterday.

Instead, fans are left to wonder what really transpired to cause the Virgin Islands’ Triple Crown champion, Really Uptown, to finish in such an unexpected manner, especially considering the promising form showed in a return race which was won last month at Ellis Thomas Downs ahead of Town Hall which finished in second place in the Governor’s Cup.

Meanwhile, owner of Town Hall, Alex V. Lake of Family Affairs Stables expressed disappointment in not being able to secure the Governor’s Cup after coming so close to a win, but felt the race went well for his team.

“When I leave my Territory I represent to the fullest. When I went to St Croix, I won the race. I came to St Thomas and ran an excellent second place in the Governor’s Cup,” Lake said.

A complaint filed by the team after they felt there was a foul near the end of the race did not find favour with the judges and Lake said he accepted and understood their decision as it was final. “We’re excellent sportsmen and we accept [the decision] for what it was,” he added.

Earlier in the day Don’t Hook My Halo of St Croix finished first in the Angel Corneiro Cup while Machoramus won the second race of the day, The Warren “Tobago” Estrada Cup.

The third race of the day was won by Mr Gold Prospect with Mae Ruler finishing first in the fifth race and Stephen Got Better taking the win in race number six. Uptown Anthem defeated Break Up the Game to complete victory in race seven and Tiger Glider won the final race of the day.

The race was sold the only question is whether it was the trainer, jockey or owners. Half of yall who was straining yall ears listening to it on the radio wouldn't understand. By the way FA Stables got broke too because the beat was against swagg daddy.Anyway I'm assuming that most of yall got cable/dish so you'll see the race on JTV sometime. You'll see the money was planning Uptown against Admission real money. At the last furlong off the race, yes uptown was already in 5th but still very much on front of admission but jockey was standing up on uptown not wipping not
hand riding and actually looked back at admission before letting him pass uptown at the line.

You may or may not have a point but that jockey is always looking back. It seems like his style. In every single race I have seen this guy ride he looks back. Come again. If there was a sell-out it must be those STT guys who the owners think got their backs - former cop and all.

Thank you Horse Mane! Thats exactly what happened the race was sold everybody could see the jockey waited for Admission to pass Uptown looking back and standing up on the horse. Next race you will see Uptown back to his old self! Pure nastiness went on with that, exactly why I was told dont bet. Thank god i didnt.

I agree. A horse is a mammal too. Alter such a long layoff, how the hell he is expected to run one short race then try to run one so much longer and not bruuk dung - I had a verbal bet with a strong l&b supporter that sleven would beat both up town and Admission. He said I must stop making those insulting remarks. Well he was speechless after the race. I felt so bad for him, I only looked at him and smiled. His bank account took a beating. Good thing I am only a mouth champion who ain't betting on nobody's' shores.

L & B stables practical work in horae racing is outstanding and their rigorous and consistent wins are impressive but somone must explain what happen on Friday!!!!!
    • Gil (04/05/2014, 13:58) Like (6) Dislike (0) Reply
What I believe happen happened before friday. The horse is always under heavy guard but the jockey goes home alone. Another PR jockey put a dagger in L & B owner' s chest. It is always good to anticipate these things and change up the game. That jockey may have been relieved if he too had gotten a surprise - notice at the last Minuit that he was not riding the feature race.

If L & B stable feel that something went array yet again with another PR jockey (which I now believe after watching the video of this race over and over), it may be time to race at home only. This may take a little fun out of the sport, but enough is enough. People become loyal to dollars sometimes man!
