UPDATE: Hon. O'Neal- Hon. Fahie 'didn't say all' regarding VIP leadership!

They have not reduced the size of my God that will help me to serve you, they have not reduced my dedication to you my people, they have not reduced my vision for you my people, they have not reduced my will to serve you my people, they have not reduced my vision for this Territory, they have not reduced my heart for you my people, they have not reduced the scope of my focus, they have not reduced my ability to call right, right and wrong, wrong! These were the words of First District representative Hon. Andrew A. Fahie to his constituents on January 26, 2013. Photo: VINO
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Contacted today January 28, 2013 regarding the recent public announcement by Member of the Opposition Hon. Andrew A. Fahie relating to speculation about issues of the Virgin Islands Party and Hon. Ralph T. O'Neal OBE leadership, Hon. O'Neal didn't think Hon. Fahie told it all.

Honourable Fahie, during a District meeting in Capoons Bay on Saturday January 26, 2013 had sought to dispel allegations that there is serious infighting in the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) and that he has his eyes on elevating to the helm of the party’s leadership. He revealed that Hon. O'Neal, the Virgin Islands Party Chairman and Leader of the Opposition, had indicated that he was only going to serve in the opposition for 18 months.

When asked if he had any knowledge about Hon. Fahie's claim that he was only serving as Opposition Leader for eighteen months, Hon. O'Neal responded, "I didn't read it, if that's what he said he didn't say all that I had said."

Asked what it was in full that he had said at the time, Hon. O'Neal responded, "I don't think that matters to you [Virgin Islands News Online] now."

At the time Hon. Fahie was delivering his report to the people of the First District and by extension the Territory. He had said, "Since the last General Elections, our Leader has already informed that he wishes to serve as Leader of the Opposition for eighteen months. He did not indicate whether or not he would be giving up his post as Chairman of the VIP," Hon. Fahie reported.

Efforts to gather further clarification from Hon. Fahie proved futile.

Hon. Fahie dispels rumours of wanting VIP leadership!

- Dismisses notion as false rumours; says VIP does have issues

“Do we have issues? YES! Can the issues be solved? Yes! I am not worried about the future of the Virgin Islands Party. The future is bright! The VIP is the only political party in the British Virgin Islands that has a working constitution that was tried, tested and proven many times.”

This was an emphatic statement by First District representative Honourable Andrew A. Fahie as he sought to dispel allegations that there is serious infighting in the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) and that he has his eyes on elevating to the helm of the party’s leadership. He noted he is more concerned about being able to represent the people, both who would have and have not elected him as their leader in the First District.

This statement comes on the heels of talks that it is time the long serving leader of the VIP Hon. Ralph T. O’Neal OBE give up the position mainly because of his age and physical self mobility. In an attempt to clear his name, Hon. Fahie made it clear to the listening ears and the recorders with their red lights on, “All the false rumors out there stating that Fahie wants to declare himself Chairman and Leader of the Party is just what it is, false.”

Hon. Fahie further stated, “Is your First District representative without ambitions?  NO!  I do not run away from anything; but the decision for leadership of the Virgin Islands Party is that of the Congress; that of the Constitution; and that of you the people!”

He said that since the last General Elections, Hon. Ralph T. O’Neal indicated that he wished to serve as Leader of the Opposition for eighteen months and that he did not indicate whether or not he would be giving up his post as Chairman of the VIP.

“If this were to happen, then the Party’s Congress must prepare itself to perform its Constitutional duty in convening its 76 member delegates and commence the process of choosing a new leader.  This is not the will of any single member.  It has to be done as directed by the Party’s Constitution.  There is a process that is directed by the Party’s Constitution. This is why I will continue to say that the Party has a bright future because its Constitution, once followed, will ensure such,” said Hon. Fahie.

The Opposition Member stressed that his job is to continue to represent the people of the First District with distinction.  “My power comes from God through you the people of the First District so I do not need to fight for what you have already given to me.  So let the naysayers have their say because the Party’s Constitution will settle it all.  But no matter the outcome your representative and you the people of the First District will continue to stand tall.  We have a country to build and that will remain my focus not matter what side of the isle in the House of Assembly I sit. The challenges ahead that this Territory must face cannot be solved through mischief, fancy slogans and marketing,” said Hon. Fahie.

In unveiling some of his plans for the First District, Hon. Fahie said that, through the churches and as a united First District community, every effort will be directed towards retooling the community.

“We will launch a programme in the First District with or without government funding that will ensure that every person especially our young men in the District who do not have a skill will be trained in one, whether it is in plumbing, engine repair, woodwork, speech presentation, and the list goes on. It is not my intention to compete with the already stellar programmes that Government after Government continues to provide, rather it is my intention to complete rather than compete.  Since some of our young people in the First District do not go to these programmes, we will bring these programmes to them,” Hon Fahie told members of his district.

I thought that Fahie did an excellent job with his speech last evening. He was informative and direct but yet respectful. I have new respect for this man.

What Fahie did by outlining the VIP's procedures under the Constitution for choosing a new leader and how the party functions was perfect. We now know that no one man can give the leadership to anyone or that no one man can demand the leadership Whether Fahie is leader or not, I think he is a good young leader in his own rights that serves the 1st District and the people of this Territory well. He is a fearless leader with great wisdom and now great maturity.

I am not a Fahie fan but I was totally impressed by his presentation and his vision for the future in many areas. He proved to me that he is an intelligent and humble man. He has matured immensely in my book. Great job.

Mr. Fahie can talk the talk.

Too bad that he does not know (or want) to walk the walk

I am thankfull that the VIP has a process to select the future of the party because some of the nonsense I was hearing was ridiculous. Their process is the same as that in America for the selecting of leadership in both the Democratic and Republican party so I think that this is good. I thank Fahie for doing this so that people with sense can start to get back to talking about the new VIP leadership with sense.

Fahie I am a VIP supporter but I am telling you that most of these guys trying to paint you in a negative light while it is them who really only care about power and greed. Becareful Fahie because they are up to no good especially the leader when it comes to you but we will keep praying for you and what is best for this Territory. Fahie your biggest enemies are not most of the NDP but most of the VIP. Just keep doing the people's business. We got your back.

I was saying the same thing! It is the same person commenting 4 to 5 times with a different handle on every Fahie article. Fact of the matter is Fahie cannot be trusted and tried a power move last elections that back fired. Imagine a number of the VIP candidates don't want to run on the party ticket as long as Andrew is on the ship.

You guys are loosers. When it is in Fahie's favour it is the same blogger but when they killing him like you doing more than once it is more than one blogger. The VIP candidates were loosers AND NOT because of FAHIE. Everyone knows this except most of the VIP. Ralph is a poor leader & he thinks his old time games of divide to conquer & he keep power will work but not anymore.

You must be a product of Good To Great! How do you spell losers? You call it loosers......poor thing you. Fact is fact and Andrew did some underhanded nonsense last elections. He campaigning for himself but at the same time campaigning against his colleagues.....very two faced! You have all the mouth on the blogs, why you don't go to Uncle Ralph and tell him to his face he is a poor leader? Andrew at least get a piece of my mind already face to face!

craisin; i agree with you...the NDP bent on taking taking the secret out of natures little secret....we have a uniques products, we do not need to have compete with those other bigger islands.....we need to promote BVI as restful destination not a rat race.....check this out; the NDP wanted us to think that all the cruise ships will stop coming to bvi if we do not build a bigger sea port; almost each day 2-3 ships are here in bvi.....we have a product that is seconds to none; simply a nice easy pace destination....dont get me wrong we need to develop our island and this must be done for the citzens first then we share it with the visitor....can not develop for the vistor first then fit us in somewhere......

Wize up you are an ASSSSSSSSSSSS!!! It's no secret, the Cruise Companies have beeen telling all Caribbean Ports the same thing. They have bigger ships that cannot dock in BVI. Don' tyou see at times certain ships have to remain out at sea? They cannot come to the dock. That is no lie or secret, it has been in the media. VIP started the discussions for the Cruise Pier and Airport extension, NDP are just continuing and making changes where they feel necessary, but if VIP were reelected we would have the pier devleopment and airport extension. You all are so blinded by party bullshit you can't see that. When VIP were laying the groundworks for these projects they were good, now NDP moving forward with them they're bad? You all are a set of idiots that's why you will only be servants in your own country. A set of blah blah blah on the blogs but nothing of substance in real life. If a politician don't hold your hand you suck salt..>BLAH!

Freedom of expression is fine. But one has to learn freedom
of RIGHT JUDGMENT too. Otherwise, we can offend anybody in any way we like in
the name of freedom of expression or speech.

Ralph is a mind game player. The Leader of the Opposition & the VIP leadership are two different things. Ralph just need to step down from both & let whoever they choose to move forward. He served us well but we cannot sit down and allow him to put us in a well.

Yes, it makes perfect political and strategic sense to push out a leader who is obviously not going to contest the next election. Seriously people what it the point of all of this. None of us agree with our leaders 100% of the time but Ralph has served his country well and is respected internationally. What is the trouble? Andrew's problem isn't with Ralph or when Ralph wont be leader, its with who will be leader after Ralph. Seems like they have a whole dysfunctional mess when it comes to that, regardless of their constitution. However, its undignified to attack Ralph who again is so not going to run again, I mean its obvious. Why not make a strong case for yourself?
  • To amazing (29/01/2013, 11:01) Like (2) Dislike (1) Reply
Ralph surely ain't moving like a man who isn't running again. Fahie isn't annoiting himself as leader but I agree with his course of action. Ralph has played too many games with us for too long & the days for game playing is over. He has served us well but now he wants to put us in a well. Tell him bow out now gracefullyFahie also has been loyal to Ralph for 12 years so you talking piddle.
