CHARLOTTE AMALIE, St Thomas, USVI- Governor’s Cup champion Totally Evil made it 6 wins in a row in the Greater Virgin Islands when he took the feature race of the St John’s Festival Horse Races at Clinton E. Phipps Racetrack on St Thomas, US Virgin Islands (USVI) today, July 3, 2017.

The St Thomas horse romped to victory in the open race over 1 mile 40 yards for a purse of $8,500, in a new track record of 1:40.2.

2016 Governor’s Cup champion Giant Valley of Tortola had to settle for second while I’M Sensational of St Thomas took third.

Totally Evil of Alliance Point Stables was ridden by Victor Santiago.

4 second place finishes for Tortola horses

There was no win for Tortola horses today but four second places.

Meddling Birdie was second to Gus Is Tuff in the opening race of the day; D’Big Gossip was second best to Go Pancho Go in the second race on the card, a 1 Mile encounter for Class C Horses; and Sandler crossed the line behind convincing winner Irish Smarty in the final race of the day, a 1 mile encounter for Class D Horses.

Tortola horse on debut, Kokomo, finished third in Race 3, which was run over 7 ½ furlongs among mares and fillies.

Horse owners in the Greater Virgin Islands are now looking forward to the August Tuesday races at Ellis Thomas Downs in Sea Cows Bay, Tortola.

Totally Evil’s handlers have already announced they will be coming to extend their winning streak.

9 Tortola horses competing on St Thomas today

- Giant Valley & American Greed lead the VI’s challenge in feature race

Some nine (9) horses from Tortola will be in competition at the St John’s Festival Horse Races at Clinton E. Phipps Racetrack on St Thomas, US Virgin Islands (USVI) today, July 3, 2017.

Leading the challenge for the Virgin Islands (VI) will be 2016 Governor’s Cup champion Giant Valley and American Greed, who is coming off a win in the Carnival Races on the same track in April.

Top horse owner Lesmore Smith of Top Priority Racing Stables, speaking to Virgin Islands News Online from St Thomas, confirmed that Totally Evil and American Greed have been entered in the feature race.

“Nine horses from Tortola are on St Thomas for the races,” Mr Smith further told this news site today, July 3, 2017.

The other horses in the feature encounter, an open race over 1 mile 40 yards for a purse of $8,500, include 2017 Governor’s Cup winner Totally Evil, I’M Sensational, and Brass Note. The feature race is scheduled to start at 4:40 P.M.

The other horses from Tortola in action today are Meddling Birdie, D’Big Gossip, Compass Stone (debut), Daboluck, and Sandler.

The first race is scheduled to get underway at 2:00 P.M.

    My only concern is that BVI Horse men and women doesn't have the guts or the patience to stay the course.
