LONG LOOK, Tortola, VI- After our newsroom has been satisfied that the ‘next of kin’ were advised, we can confirm that the businessman and bar owner shot last night January 6, 2017 in Long Look is indigenous Virgin Islander Mr Frankie J. Fahie.

Mr Fahie, who lived for years on Zion Hill, was a resident of Long Trench, on the main island of Tortola, at the time of his death.

The deceased was reportedly operating a bar in the Long Look area and was robbed by a gunman. It is unclear if there were accomplices. It is also reported that a patron of the bar was also robbed of cash.

Mr Fahie, who is also a fisherman, was rushed to Peebles Hospital, the main public medical facility in Road Town; however it is reported that he died in surgery.

He is survived by his wife and five children, four daughters and one son.

This is the first homicide for 2017 as crime in the Virgin Islands continues to skyrocket, particularly gun crime.

The Board of Directors, Management and Staff of Virgin Islands News Online convey our condolences to Mr Fahie’s immediate family and other loved ones.

Is this our answer everytime something adverse haopens in the VI now. Weak minded let's move forward and all help to strengthen our VI for the better. Realize that a lot of bloggers point out the problems but cannot and do not provide solutions to help solve the problems. We are the people to solve our problems not everyone else. Please let's get back to being resilient BVIslanders not weak minded followers

The idea that the BVI can sort their own problems is a joke. Things have gotten worse year on year. something radical needs to happen. Yes even UK as a consideration. This will give yet again even more reason to fund our local police who are struggling with numbers, equipment and experience. The Government needs to allow them to work the way other forces do not take away their funding and expect them to function effectively with what they have

The UK has over 1583 unsolved murders compared to our 25. Now if you bring in the UK they will have 1608 murders including ours. So if they can solve theirs in the UK without taking over the BVI, then I would say okay. But bringing them here would surely mean giving up so much of our freedom, no more enjoying island and believe it or not, Apartheid. Do you really want to bring them in?????

In comparison to their population and ours... we need to get it under control. They have millions of people and if the can't solve 1600 crimes out of 10000 that's acceptable. We are a small community and matters are getting out of hand. 25 out of 100 is still a lot more than we can allow. These figures aren't accurate but that's my estimate. We cannot compare our small communities with their large metropolises. We should reflect on what we have experienced with our leaders and understand that changes need to be made. Maybe not as drastic as making the U.K. take over but something needs to be done.

It's officially the hood of the Virgin Islands (BVI). I think it's time for the rep for the 7th to break his silence on rampant crime in his district and start working with the community to come up with some solutions. This is ridiculous now.

But on another note persons writing the news need to learn that the East End and Long Look community is made up of many smaller areas that are all named so saying east end or long look whenever a crime happens paint a horrible picture in the eyes of the wider community.Senseless violence anywhere in the BVI should not be tolerated. On any given day you can see punks breaking the law with absolutely no consequences, I see scooter riders with no helmets, running red lights in broad daylight, I even see them now texting while on the scooters and the police do nothing. If criminals know they will not be punished they will get emboldened and do more serious crimes such as armed robberies. How many murders are UNSOLVED in the BVI, its a disgrace. Its almost like the police have no idea what they are doing.

If you're afraid to speak up or stand up today, you may be the one who is on the receiving end tomorrow. Know that.

Fellow B.V.I Islanders it is with a sad heart I declare that our territory has reached a terrible chapter. Murders, robberies and other heinous acts have become a norm in our society. Today a mother, father, son, daughter, niece, nephew, cousin, wife, friend is mourning the death of their loved one. Today a mother, father, friend, probably a sister, son, cousin, niece, nephew, a daughter have become the relative of a murderer. He may have slept in your bed last night, ate at your table probably you know who he is. To the murderer, you may be frighten, or you will bragg about it your time will come. You will walk around for the rest of your life looking over your shoulder, drowning your guilt with drink or drug. Franklin's death may not be solved but you will be punished. Everyone knows him. He was loud but meant nothing. Criticizing the Government and Police maybe the right thing to do and some of you are just waiting for occasions like these to bloggi negative things but the question is if you know who killed Frankie is one of our own will you say something or will you find some excuse and blame someone for your fear on coming forward?. To our elected members why are you not coming out in public and speaking out against these crimes? Are you too scared to lead from the front?

Its simple. People only look out for themselves and not the community. The fool that did this need to be hunted down and killed. Let him go join his homies in hell. Stop calling for calm and call for total violence against these jackasses. All playing gang and being a vagrant on thebstreets need to be picked up and logged for prints, dna etc... . Wether live in STT or other, hunt them down. People call in a cleaner and hunt down the wanna be gangs. Thats the only way.

I have your answer. It's not that politicians in the east are scared. It's just that they will be contradicting themselves and family. We small it's kind of hard to escape not having criminal family and friends. Also, it's our fault in the shady persons we choose to represent us. We didn't do our homework. Like any job interview, you check the persons qualification, experience and pry in their history as much as possible. Crime has taken over big time. Get rid of all those representatives in the east and Belle Vue and fire the lazy policemen assigned there too.

The BVI need to make some type of deal with the US to send in some cops from the US for at least a year to help reel in these robbers and killers. US cops is not afraid to go toe to toe with the parisites here who think they are bad.

My deepest condolences goes out to his entire family on his untimely and senseless passing. That particular area seems to have gotten very active over the past few weeks with gun related matters. Some of these incident in the East End area is the lack of proper policing and their presence. Each shift that take up duty in that station find themselves in Road Town 3-4 times during their shift of eight hours. Those times can be better spent in their district, getting to know the people better and build a relationship. How much more and for how much longer would these intolerable behavior continue.

I can't believe that all those cops who are patrolling don't have weapons. If I were them, I won't want to be doing that job. I love tortola because I was born there but there are still too many ignorant people around and in government for things to be better.

There is nothing wrong with a police office moonlighting working security on his/her day off. My brother is a police officer in Texas and he does Security on his days off. Maybe if all Police officers were allow to carry a service revolver at all times the robbers would take heed.

I could understand that u want to encourage the robber to turn himself/herself in, but that was no accident. That person left with a gun and had the intentions of performing a robbery. In addition, that particular bar was probably the target. The reason why the person had the gun was to destroy anything or anyone that would prevent them from getting what they wanted. No one knows whether it was a male or female.

It is a shame that all of these robberies and murders are unsolved in the BVI. The Government is to blame because they are the head of the country and need to focus on its priority. These crimes are going on for a very long time and nothing has been done about the situation. I will agree that the police need an upgrade of protection. Crimes are happening everywhere, however' There seems to be nothing done about the ones happening in the BVI. There must also be trust between the police and the community. Sometimes people may know or see what happened and is afraid to come forward. Who is going to protect them when they speak out. There is no proper technology to handle these crimes. All it takes to catch these criminal is proper screening at the crime scene in addition to an updated database of past and present criminals. The police are encountering criminals with guns and it is not fair that they are unprotected. This addition of protection could be a negative and also a positive. Guns may be fired unnecessarily causing wrongful death by police officers as well. It is time for the government to take their stand and protect the country. It is a very painful thing for someone to rob a person of their labour. In addition, its worse when their lives are being taken from their family. Also, these things are all signs of the coming of Jesus Christ The bible says that in the last days men's heart will be wicked and evil. The only thing I can say to everyone is that "prepare your souls to meet Jesus, and in the meantime I will pray for the BVI. My deepest sympathy to the family of Franklyn Smith
