LONG LOOK, Tortola, VI- Our newsroom and Team of Reporters around the Virgin Islands (VI) can confirm that the young man shot to death in Long Look early yesterday evening close to the Stickett is 24 year old Estevan Jefferson.

The body was removed from the scene of the shooting at around 8:30 P.M. last evening November 17, 2016 by a funeral home after the family both in the VI and in St Kitts-Nevis was notified. It is also reported that another relative of the deceased was shot and rushed to Peebles Hospital in Road Town where it was in lockdown after the incident.

It was our newsroom last night that first and accurately reported that there was a fatal shooting in Long Look on the Eastern End of the main island of Tortola.

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) had subsequently confirmed our story in a press release.

It said it received a report on November 17, 2016 around 6:05 P.M. of shots being fired in the area of the Stickett, Long Look.

“Investigation revealed a male who suffered gunshot wounds, succumbed to the injuries.  Members of the Major Investigation Team assisted by other Units of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force are presently on scene at the Stickett conducting investigation.”

Persons in the area at the time of the shooting are encouraged to assist the officers in progressing investigation. Persons wishing to remain anonymous in relaying information can do so by calling 1-800-8477.

One dead following shooting in Long Look

A shooting in the Long Look area of Tortola this afternoon, November 17, 2016 has left one dead, according to reports reaching Virgin Islands News Online.

The shooting incident allegedly took place some time before 6:00 P.M.

According to reports, the body of the man killed is still on the ground.

Virgin Islands News Online has the name of the deceased but will not disclose until next of kin has been informed.

Efforts to get further information on the fatal shooting from the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) were unsuccessful up to time of publication.

The killing brings back gruesome memories of the shooting death of Cornel Melbourne Francis' who was gunned down on the night of May 9, 2013 while at The Stickett in the Long Look community. Four men clothed in black allegedly dealt him several shots in clear view of others. At the time he was said to be in the company of a few friends who were forced to flee the scene as the gruesome drama unfolded.

one thing that keeps coming up in almost every shooting - the deceased or victim is referred to as "Dawg" in the comments. It looks like if "Dawg" is your nickname, you need to change it. Who would want to be called Dawg anyway! Let's re-examine the whole thing. Surrender our lifestyles, surrender the weapons, change for peace. I don't know the dude and my condolences to his family.

Young people, if you all are part of gangs or negative groups, only 2 places you bound to end up eventually, take your pick. Let's exchange our PIECE for PEACE!

As we look on at the news in the islands everyday there is a shooting. Many off these shotta guns are moving from one island to the next especially after shooting someone and think all is or gonna be well after that. They also get into the same habit in their new surroundings or others become productive instead but the sins of their crime still hanging over their heads. What the security forces in the islands need to do is to work together and catch up on those moving from island to island and keep a tap on them otherwise we all gonna pay for our lives. We might be at the right place at the wrong time for what is happening around us.They are not concern about their surroundings when they are shooting at who they wish to get rid of so they dont care about me and you if we are there when they are shooting. If only many can turn from their wicked ways and turn to God then we are sure to have a trun around in our societies. We too as a people we have to encourage them and stop reminding of their past actions but only to use it to save their lives from death and everlasting hell fire.

Where are the two district reps voice in this sad situation? That area needs to be installed with several CCTV cameras, mobile patrols every 20 mins or so until the vagrants hanging out there get the clue that the RVIPF and wider community will not suffer this wanton disrespect for law and order. Now is the time the RVIPF should be instituting searches of all known criminals etc. and 'hot them up' like mid-day sun on a summer afternoon in Anegada! The actors/players in this tragedy are well known to the RVIPF and their "intelligence' arm - what are we paying these individuals for when we hardly see any known felons arrested for guns? Why can repeat offenders whom are found with guns let off with measly fines and/or short sentences? Why when these things happen no ministers of Government hold press conferences to reach out to the communities? Is it only when the photo ops. allow them to shine and garner votes they find a voice for the people? Where are the community leaders? Doing the same thing these punks are - planning how to cheat/lie/steal from their next prey.

Its so unacceptable how persons in that district including the police sit around and allow that place to be taken over by those guys with their criminal activities in broad daylight with no regards to anybody or thing. I remember when the elderlies used to go there and play their table games and the ladies will do their crochet, but that's no more because the so call authorities (The Police) in the district allow it. Would it ever be brought back to what it used to be?

"One killing is one killing too much."

The Virgin Islands Culture for Community, Respect, and Order is spiraling downwards in Dysfunction; and if not dealt with soon, will fester to areas we least expect (affecting the innocent, our economy and livelihood, etc). The murders of Nickera Smith and the others before her have not been solved and we are here adding to the body count in our little square miles island.

I'm with wize up on this one- LEADERSHIP MATTERS. And as Political Observer continues to emphasize at this time- “The ship needs to be taken off the reef before it completely falls apart.” Our elected leaders seem to be too busy doing what they do. So the question is- Who else among us is up to the task?

@ Every Life Matters, you and Wize Up are so correct. I live in a Community that is pretty decent and I am worried about this reaching my Community. I am so sorry to say this but, including myself, no one in my Community is willing to rent to anyone with young men between the ages of 18-25. Don't get me wrong, there are decent positive men in the above mentioned age group who is doing the right thing, they are welcome. Everyone that apply, will have to go through a background check. We are just trying to keep our Community safe from the bad elements.
