UPDATE - Company involving Dr. Hubert O'Neal wins case against family member

O'Neal is one of several shareholders of Robinson O'Neal Enterprise Limited, which filed the lawsuit against the estate of late Amos O'Neal
The matter between Robinson O'Neal Enterprise Limited of which Dr. Hubert O'Neal is one of the shareholders (left) and his niece Cassander Titley-O'Neal (right), the heir to the estate left behind by her father Amos O'Neal, was heard today in the High Court.
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - In a matter which was brought before the High Court this morning Thursday December 15, 2011, the company Robinson O'Neal Enterprises Limited of which Dr. Hubert O'Neal is one of the shareholders, filed a suit against the estate of the late Amos Jerome O’Neal for monies reportedly owed to the company and won.

Dr. Hubert O'Neal, one of several shareholders, is a former 9th District National Democratic Party candidate who contested the 2011 General Elections.

The Judge Wesley James today awarded the claimant $6000 as rent, $40,000 as mean profit and also monies for the counter claims which is to be assessed on a perceived basis.

Dr. Cassander Titley-O’Neal is the lone heir to the estate left behind by Amos O’Neal, her father and the brother of Dr. Hubert O'Neal.

A family member close to the case told this news site that the daughter had allegedly tried to settle the matter out of court but to no avail.

Dr. Hubert O'Neal contested the last General Elections in the Virgin Islands as a candidate for the 9th District but was beaten by Hon. Ralph T. O'Neal, a result that he has publicly questioned.

maybe you should look at it the other way - This is how his family treated him> They owed him money and didnt make good on repayment? I dont know the details and the facts anymore than you do so i can not cast judgement - but you have to look at it from every side.

this is a matter between a landlord and a tenant. what does politics have to do with this?? Its clear romey over spend at this bar. at times spent wildly. if rent wasnt pay to the landlord, hubert have a right to file a claim. im pretty sure romey's investment was his own decision. sometimes ppl take family for granted but i hope this get settled. two good families. why can't we all just get along

That's the same thing we were talking about......Dr. Bertie is no good and its he who want to represent us.... not me for sure. It didn't have to reach to this. What happen to the money he got for selling his brother's boat, that same money can be the settlement in this matter. Bertie was not even talking to his late brother prior to his death. To think Sandy and Bertie was so close and because of greed he turn against his own niece. God sits high and looks low, Sandy we behind you 100% and more.

It may be true that Dr. Hubert O'neal may have been estranged from his late brother however he was the one that came to his rescue when he fell ill. His daughter wasn't even talking to him. They also fell out over money. So watch who you are accusing of being greedy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Perhaps you ALL need to keep out of family business if you don't know the facts.

Read properly before you comment! It isn't him who is claiming for caring for their mother, it is amos who did! "Amos O’Neal had reportedly claimed that he was owed more than that for his part in setting up the restaurant and maintaining his mother."

Before you all come on here talking nonsense ask Ms. Titley who brought suit against who. The facts need to be known before you start talking nonsense. Let me tell you the facts: Jerome is the one who brought a suit against the company of which Dr. ONeal is a part and it includes his siblings and two others. Jerome was the Director and was allegedly using company monies for his own purpose. He was subsequently removed and that is when he filed a siut against the company. She decided to take up the suit after her father died. Ask her who took her into their home when she had nowhere to go? Ask her who help to pay her tuition when she was in school? Ask her who purchased her fist set on diving equipment? Ask her why she is holding on to a vehicle that she knows does not belong to her father but her Grandmother? Which person in their right mind would threaten their grandmother. You guys don't know half the story so don't come on here smearing the good Dr's name. He has nothing but good for the people of Virgin Gorda so shut up if you don't know the story.

Hello Betsy: Based on your comments and the details that you provided in the post it is quite clear that you are a family member. If you have something to say to Sandy why don't you go and tell her. Last time I checked, the company was the CLAIMANT and Amos Jerome O'Neal was the DEFENDANT. I'm no law expert, but the company put her father in court and as the heir she had to go as the defendant. I know Sandy personally and aint none of you in that GREEDY family pay for her to go to school. Every time she went to school she got a scholarship either from the BVI government or some other government through the Ministry of Eduction. Go check the records. Sandy is tooo NICE!!!!! The good doctor as you call him took up Sandy's father boat and gave away, but she got it back now. Go look in her mother's yard and you will see it. Who he gave it to done talk it. You talk bout vehicle, I see Sandy driving her dead father's truck. The vehicle you talking bout is obviously the one the grandmother used to drive. I missed it but now we know where it is. Sandy should expose all of you greedy buggers in that family. This comment could only be posted by a family member and my bet is you Mr/Mrs. Butu. Go back JA where you come from. Talk that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Based on your comment, you're a misled family member too, just spreading lies. OBVIOUSLY, the court determined the true lier.

Just so you know, a dead man's estate must pay it's debts before his assets can be distributed to the beneficiaries named in the will.

Why did he allow him to accumulate $70,000 in rent? He should have evicted the person or had taken him to court while he was alive. What a burden he is now asking the family to bear when the large amount was maybe partially his fault for not taking action earlier. Was he thinking that he would let him accumulate all that debt and then if he passes away he will lay claim to his estate? $70,000 just seems like a lot to allow someone to accumulate in rent, even at $5k a month, that is over a year's worth. Maybe, I don't know what commercial rent prices are over in VG. Hope they work it out and can repair their family ties, after it is all said and done.

You all just need to shut up and let the people deal with their business. You dont know the facts so shut up and find something meaningful to do with your time. Hubert and Cassander know what they are about.

Business is business family or not. This kind of behaviour why there is not a Sims Do it Best and why VI Block is not fully owned by the Malones'. If you keep taking money out of an accout without replinishing it you would eventually have a zero balance. How much of you would lend a relative 70,000 in the first place, and it you do, would you by any means necessary not try to recoup it according to the terms of the loan. Family has nothing to do with business. Ethics and principles do!
