UK reigns in VI legislators: Cabinet Decisions to be made public
This, according to Governor Augustus J. U. Jaspert, who made the announcement during his ‘Speech from the Throne,’ during the House of Assembly’s sitting on Thursday, September 13, 2018.
According to the Resident Representative of the United Kingdom (UK), it was decided to make the Cabinet Decisions public, “in keeping with the Government's commitment to promote more openness and transparency.
As such, he said Premier Dr the Honourable D. Orlando (AL), and himself, “will shortly announce how the publicising of Cabinet decisions will be implemented.”
Code of Conduct
Governor Jaspert in his ‘Speech from the Throne,’ used the occasion to announce too that Legislators of the HoA will soon be subjected to ‘A Code of Conduct’ that will be brought to the House.
The Code, he said, will identify a set of standards that Ministers are expected to follow in protecting the integrity of their public office.
In addition, the UK Representative said Government will seek to include the Freedom of Information Bill, which will guide how people can access public records and it will outline the exempted categories.
“This piece of legislation will allow for increased transparency and accountability of public affairs…The Bill includes recommendations for the establishment of a Freedom of Information Unit to provide the public with the appropriate administrative mechanism to make and receive requests, he said.
Speeches from the Throne have been come to viewed over the years as routine.
