RED HOOK, St. Thomas, USVI – Starship Villain, a St. Thomas horse making his debut appearance at the Clinton E. Phipps racetrack yesterday April 27, 2012, had to be euthanized after he suffered an owner’s worst nightmare – a badly broken leg and went into a cardiac arrest.

The horse was part of the field for race seven, which was won by Tortola’s Really Uptown.

The mishap happened before Starship Villain completed the race. Realising something was wrong, the Jockey immediately jumped off the horse. From observation, the horse’s right front leg was broken at a joint and the rear back leg was bleeding.

A few minutes later, the horse collapsed and reportedly went into cardiac arrest. The veterinarian and officials quickly got the situation under control and removed the horse from the track.
