ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The Virgin Islands Triple Crown is back on the horse racing calendar, with the first leg scheduled during the meet to take place on Sunday January 18, 2015 at Ellis Thomas Downs in Sea Cows Bay.

While there are still some issues to be resolved with the dates of the second and third legs slated for St Croix and St Thomas respectively, the owner of Trading Secrets, Mr Alex V. Lake of Family Affairs Stables, is in no doubt that his horse, Trading Secrets, is in prime condition to take the VI Triple Crown by storm and put the disappointment of the 2014 Championship being curtailed well and truly behind them.

“Last Year Town Hall was primed and ready for Triple Crown success,” noted Lake, “but because of differences of opinions amongst the Associations it never happened, although Town Hall triumphed in what was to be the first leg of the Crown, which became the VI Classic.”

Town Hall is on his way back from injury and Lake had originally planned to have him run in the Triple Crown after a second place finish in the St Thomas Governors Cup, the big race at the St Croix Agrifest races and subsequent successive wins in Tortola. However, the horse is not quite ready and Trading Secrets will enter the gate hoping to become the home crowd favourite.

The four year old was purchased by Lake from New Jersey, having also run in Florida.

“I’ve had him four months now and he has been improving every day. There were some leg and feeding issues, but he is now at peak readiness. St Moose from St Croix is a threat and is a previous big money winner from the States, but we will set Trading Secrets off the pace early, hang back before making a move and are confident of winning.”

Trading Secrets won his previous outing at Ellis Thomas Downs, over 1 mile in a time of 1:51, beating Still Unbroken along the way. Still Unbroken is also running in the Triple Crown opener while Chilean Boy is the second home-based horse taking part. He has already beaten Swag Daddy over 7 furlongs. These horses will complete the field for the first leg of the VI Triple Crown.

The full card for the 1 and 1/16th Mile first leg also includes Lesmore Smith’s, Chilean Boy, St Moose out of St Croix, Still Unbroken (stt) and Swag Daddy (stt).

The date for the second leg should be set by the time the first leg is completed and all hinges on whether the contract to run the course in St Croix, currently held by Traxco, is renewed.

The official race card for the meet on Sunday January 18, which includes the first leg of the Triple Crown, is:-

Well Sah! They trying a ting but it still not working, look at how many of those tick and flea animals being put to sleep. look at the weak crowds they have there at the races. Time to really turn that rubbish into a state of the art cricket stadium and see what a real crowd is all about.

I would not run any horses on that track. To many horses are injuring themselves on that track. One after the other are broken their legs on this track. Please fix the track before you all talk about triple crown.
