ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - The community is invited to join the Tortola Toastmasters Club of the BVI on Saturday November 3 for its tenth anniversary “Masquerade Soiree” gala dinner.

This elegant eloquent evening will be held at the Moorings Mariner Restaurant at 7 p.m. where Club executives will be installed and new members inducted. The club will also welcome the District Governor for Area 81, Toastmaster Rolande Tobias, as well as initial club sponsor and first President Toastmaster Mark McKenzie.

Additionally, there will be an auction with fantastic items for bidders. The proceeds of the auction will go towards defraying club funds and maintaining reasonable dues for the community.

Tickets for the Masquerade Soiree are $50.00 and are available from any Toastmaster. Entertainment will be provided by local band, Gospel in a Mello Tone.

President of the Tortola Toastmaster’s Club, Ms. Bobbi Fawcett stated, “Toastmasters International offers a learn-by-doing, self paced improvement programme. In so doing, we highlight leadership and communication through the zoom lens of public speaking.”

The President added, “The rewards are evident as we witness members bloom with confidence, strengthen their analytical skills and enhance their listening finesse.”

The Tortola Toastmasters Club was established in Oct 2003. Since its establishment, it has conducted and assisted with various community outreach events. President Fawcett noted this helps to nurture greater self confidence, and to create better ambassadors for the BVI.

Members of the Executive Committee of the Tortola branch are Immediate Past President, Jeremiah Frett, Vice President of Education, Yvonne Thomas, Vice President of Membership, Dereck Alphonso, Vice President of Public Relations, Damion Grange, Treasurer, Calnise Philips and Sergeant at Arms, Nathaniel Isaac.

The Tortola Toastmasters Club meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Training Division Conference Room, on the first floor of the BettetoFrettBuilding. Its sister club, the Virgin Gorda Pioneers Club meets twice a month. Interested persons in Virgin Gorda can telephone Immediate Past President, Kimberly George at 284.543.6278.

Both BVI Clubs and the St Croix Club are in Area 28 and part of Division E. The current Area Governor, Yvonne Leacock-Thomas has been recognised twice as Toastmaster of the Year. Others who have served as Area Governor are Dr Marjorie Yee-Sing and Adenike Sicard. The Toastmasters International motto is “Where Leaders are Made”.

The mission of a Toastmasters club is to provide a mutually supportive and positive learning environment in which every individual member has the opportunity develop oral communication and leadership skills.
