Time for public electricity @ Long Bay beach - residents
"Look at this generator they bring here, almost blow up, every minute the system shutting down, this is nonsense. Why till now they can't put in a power line up here (on the Long Bay beach, Beef Island)? So many events happening here almost every week and not a proper power source, dah mek sense?" said one patron to Monday's activity on the beach.
It is not clear to this news site what was the real problem with the power generating set that was being used on the beach on Monday evening, but it was witnessed firsthand the set malfunctioning to the extent of a near explosion that had put a halt to the entertainment at the activity for some 10 - 15 minutes.
At the time a live band had just gotten into their rhythm and patrons were priming themselves up for a real party as they awaited the fashion show segment that was programmed for the night.
With the ailing power generator back in action, the band re-tuning, the sound system on track again and party lovers stepping back into gear again, boom, another power failure. This time it seemed only the sound system was affected as the generator was still running.
"Now we come out to party, we come out to have some fun and this is the mess, they messing up man. Just now everything going get shut off and we got to go home, people food not going to sell out because if you can't get to party people are not going to buy and eat. All this because what? One simple thing, proper source of electricity up here," added another patron.
This has not been the first time that residents have cried shame on government for not taking steps to have a fixed source of electricity on the popular beach at Beef Island but, according to one woman on Monday, "It is a shame to see when private people got things out there their things (power sources) does be so much more stable but a big government function lousy like this."
