ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- What sounded like bomb strikes, the Virgin Islands was rudely awakened to a severe thunderstorm this morning, June 6, 2019.

The thunderstorm began it's nearly hour long "assault" on the Virgin Islands around 4:45am.

There have been reports of power being knocked out in some areas, including Cane Garden Bay.

According to weather.com, there is a 77% chance of rain this morning with some sunshine in the afternoon.

A thunderstorm, also known as an electrical storm or a lightning storm, is a storm characterized by the presence of lightning and its acoustic effect on the Earth's atmosphere, known as thunder.
