It is always good to see young people having a firm footing in life and being a success story for others to emulate. Our young professional for this week, Mr Levor A. H. Lettsome, tells us a touching story of his journey to realising his goals and dreams.

“First and foremost the greatest story of my life is my love for God, the strength and faith he has given to that makes me who I am today. Secondly, I thank God for my mother who has taught me how to pray and a strong woman who has never stopped praying for me. I strongly believe that it’s her prayers that have kept me,” said a grateful Mr Lettsome.

His story shows that for one to get to where they want to be takes courage, not losing sight of a vision and persevering despite adversities.

Levor A. H. Lettsome is a born Virgin Islander who lived most of his life in the East End area where he grew up. Life, he said, was not easy for him as he grew up with his mother who was the sole breadwinner for himself and siblings.

He recalled the many days they went hungry, the many days he couldn’t make it to school because his mother hadn’t anything to put on his plate. He vividly remembers the days of heading out to school without a proper pair of shoes and sometimes even bare feet.

But through all his not so nice experiences Levor believed in his heart that one day things were going to get better. And things have gotten better because he not only believed but he never stopped fighting to change his situation.

Our young professional said he always put his best foot forward and soon graduated from the now Elmore Stoutt High School where he was sometimes subjected to being bullied and teased because of his acne. Luckily for him, however, he did have a few friends that stood by him. “I was very depressed in high school but I still had friends who I could have related to. They helped me make it through. I always pushed myself to achieve.”

From high school, Levor ventured into the world of work where he worked for government. “I started working right out of high school at the age of 18 years old. I started working at the Labour Department as a Secretary for the Commissioner at the time. Then I was promoted to being a Revenue Officer,” he recalled.

Levor remained at the Labour Department for three and a half years before moving to work under what was called back in those days ‘Community Health’ in the Health Promotion Unit where he started as an Executive Officer.

He was then further elevated to the position of Accounts Officer in the Ministry of Health even before the advent of the Health Services Department. His next beat was to move on to being the Administrator of the Adina Donovan Home for the Elderly where he stayed for some seven years. “For me, that’s just a brief thing within the fourteen years I have been with government.”

Academically, he didn’t sit in those jobs and become complacent but rather utilised all resources available to prepare him for studies at the college level. When the opportunity was presented, Levor attended the Manchester Metropolitan University in the United Kingdom (UK) where he studied for his Masters in Business Management.

Following those studies, he went on to having a different experience and exposure to opportunities and ways of life as he lived in the United States of America (USA) for some time before returning home to fulfill one of his biggest dreams- having his own business. Today he is the owner of the East End top of the line business Levaux Beauty Salon & Spa and Leviz Snackette.

Levoy is also the Human Resources Manager at KPMG BVI Limited. "I am also a gospel artist, I love singing and have been doing so since the early age of five," said Mr Lettsome, who is also a member of the Long Look Church of God of Prophecy fellowship.

With his story being told, Mr Lettsome’s advice to youths is, “If you put your mind to achieving something, even if it looks impossible give it a try. You may never know unless you try, especially if it is something that you have been dreaming of. I would advise anyone, there is nothing complicated for anyone to get done. You have to be very strong, you have to put a lot of energy to it and it will happen. Sometimes you may have to go though tough trials and testing but you must stay strong.”
