This Week We Feature Young Professional Ikyjah T. Williams
A famous quote says, “A picture is worth a thousand words”. Our young professional for this week tells his stories through the artwork of photography and video.
Meet young professional Ikyjah T. Williams, 14, an honour roll junior student at the Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS) who is also a member of the RAGE Youth Group at the New Testament Church of God International Worship Centre. He hails from Purcell Estate.
Ikyjah is the proud member of the Althea Scattlife Primary School Class of 2015 where he graduated with high honours.
Business Venture
Ikyjah’s love for media and photography was inspired by his mentor Timothy Baker who he currently works for at his company called TMB Media Inc.
“I work with cameras and sound and what I enjoy most about my job is the outcome of the pictures or videos,” our young professional said.
He revealed that he is working on starting his own media company called KyKy Williams Photography. “I wish to see myself as a young entrepreneur in media and technology.”
Ikyjah admitted that the most challenging thing about his job is having to reshoot a picture when the end result is not what he is expecting.
Our young professional also shared that he had wanted to become a professional sports player. “I was one of the best tennis players in the BVI.”
Wrong crowd
Our young professional revealed that in the past, he found himself among the wrong set of friends but stated that he listened to the advice of his parents and began to surround himself with people that have a positive mindset.
“I started to surround myself with people who will only lift me up and not bring me down.”
Improvements at ESHS
Very passionate about his education, Ikyjah expressed that he would like to see some improvements within the walls of his school.
He indicated that he would like to see more variety in the subjects being offered at the school, while suggesting that the science labs be improved.
“The labs need to be renewed for our science students and we the students need to be working in a comfortable environment. Also, the teachers and classrooms need to be provided with more resources and technology for us to understand better and learn,” he said.
Inspiration/Interest
When our young professional is not studying for a test or exam, you can find him telling his or someone else’s story through the eyes of a camera lens.
Ikyjah also enjoys playing football and basketball with his friends, while meditating on Gospel music that helps him to keep focused.
He revealed that his mother, Zahra Fevrier and his father, Shaun Williams are two persons who inspire him in whatever he does. He also told our news reporter that his mentor Timothy Baker and Eusa Adams motivate him as well.
“They inspire me because they boost up my confidence level and they never talk bad about me.”
“I prayed for protection during Irma”
September 6, 2017, was a day that our young professional would never forget. He explained that his house did not suffer significant damages other than being flooded out during the hurricane, while stating that he prayed for protection.
“Water kept coming in, so me and my family took our towels and comforters to stop the water from coming under the doors. Then I just prayed and went to sleep. We were blessed that not that much damage was done on our house.”
Ikyjah mentioned that he was flown out of the territory following the storm to assist him to cope with the traumatic event but pointed out that before he left, himself and his friends went around the community of Purcell Estate and contributed in any way that they could.
Advice to youths
When asked what advice our young professional would leave with his fellow youths he said:
“Everyone does not have to believe in your dream, which means nobody has to see and chase your dreams but you.”
