ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Leader of the Opposition Honourable Julian Fraser RA (R3) said that the fact that people in the territory have seen it fit to return the National Democratic Party (NDP) to power at the June 8, 2015 election, it can be an interpretation that all is well and the desire of the people is to leave well alone.

He was delivering his 2015 Christmas message to the people of the Third District and of the Virgin Islands as a whole today Christmas Day, December 25, 2015.

“But is this really true?” asked Honourable Fraser, “When considering the imposition of an unpopular National Health Insurance (NHI) Scheme expected to come on stream January 1, 2015; the continued rationing of water resulting in the nuisance of supply inconvenience; constant pressure from the United Kingdom Government for the establishment of a Beneficial Ownership Register, which is predicted by the experts to have grave consequences on our Financial Services Industry, among others,” said Honourable Fraser.

He noted that in the territory it is seldom ever possible to measure hardship through failure, because we Virgin Islanders have been conditioned to always put our best foot forward.

“My People of the Third District, and the entire territory, I extend my heart to you in whatever sadness you are confronted with this Christmas Day. Be it due to a personal ailment, or that of a family member or friend. Be it due to a loved one being incarcerated, or hospitalized, I pledge my continued support to you,” he said.

The Third District Representative urged persons to enjoy themselves in the true spirit of Christmas. “I am quite aware, that by the time this message reaches you, the carolling from the night before would have stopped, and the serenading may be at full blast,” he said.

“But as you sit down with friends and loved ones to enjoy the day’s meal, and salivate over your delicious pastries, particularly tart and sweetbread, I want you to enjoy yourselves in the true spirit of Christmas. For if ever there is a time to celebrate it is now,” he said.

In closing, Honourable Fraser said, “…let me say on behalf of my wife Kharid and myself how thankful I am to the people of the Third District for their expressions of love and confidence in me, for having me as their Representative for this my 17th Christmas. I thank you."

I personally believe that the VIP is the political party that has the best interest for the VI people: VIP now have 3-years to regroup and make ready for the next general election: the best of relationships goes through tuff times( settle your differences so you can continue to represent your people)

Some years ago, I heard Hon. Myron Walwyn at a political meeting while trying to win votes to oust the VIP in 2011. He would start by asking the audience " ARE YOU BETTER OFF NOW. I guessed if hi should ask that same question now, the electorate will stone him on the stage. Hon. Fraser you are on the ball. The people need to wake up from their slumber before it is too late.

The view expressed are not mine. Nonetheless, every organization should periodically do a situation analysis, strength/weakness/Opportunies/Threats, strategic planning.......etc. A political party must put differences of opinions aside and put forth candidates who have earned the respect, and confidence of voters. Candidates must bring some capital/value to the table, be a relationship builder, be able to expand the electoral base, be assignable, be credible....etc.
