ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - A caller to the Speak Out BVI show with host Doug Wheatley does not believe the people have spoken as is being said regarding the overwhelming victory of the National Democratic Party (NDP) at the June 8, 2015 polls.

“The people haven’t spoken…they are too ignorant,” said the caller to the host during Tuesday night’s June 16, 2015 airing of the show.

“The people didn’t say anything when washers and TVs and fridges and white envelopes were being passed out to ignorant people. They haven’t spoken yet. Those things have to stop,” the irate caller said.

“Those things are corruption…as far as I am concerned there has not been an election,” he said. “Not a fair one. The people have not spoken. They have to stop receiving bribes. The people need to get intelligent.”

He said that during the period of the dissolution of the House of Assembly politicians were powerless, “like Baygon on fly.”

The caller further said the politicians realised that the power is in the people and hence they tried to buy their votes by bribing them and giving gifts.

“It is real…those little white envelopes all over the place,” the man said.

In response to the caller, host of the show Doug Wheatley noted that people have been talking a lot about white envelopes and brown envelopes and they talk about contracts being given out at the very last minute and asked whether there is any evidence to substantiate those accusations.

“I am a witness…this thing is real. It is very much real. It is reality. Until something is done right it isn’t done,” the caller said.

Wheatley said that in another Caribbean country it is said that people go into the polling booth and take a picture of the ballot with the x placed for a particular candidate or party and upon leaving the polling station they show it to someone who then gives them money.

He said that here there was a notice that no cell phones were to be used in the polling stations but he said that, apart from the notice, he does not know how it was ensured that no cell phones were used in the polling booths.

The NDP won the election by a landslide. Not only in the number of people in the HOA but by the numbers they won by. No party, I don't care who they are and no individual would or can waste that amount of money to pay off all those votes to vote for them. This election was not decided by 50 or 100 votes. In most instances, it was by 300 and 400 per candidate, multiply that by 13 and that is alot of votes and money. Stop the conspiracy theories. The marginal magnitude by which the NDP beat the VIP does not support those theories.

(no individual would or can waste that amount of money to pay off all those votes to vote for them.) If the money did not come out of their pockets they would give and give and give some more. By a landslide? It just proves how greedy many people are that they felt they needed to sell their votes.

      Let Me Tell it too...

The System of Voter Fraud in the BVI
      by Them Who Know It

The Set Up… Step 1. First Rep. gives out bribes during election. Step 2. Then when Voter applies for a contract, Rep. know you are corrupt and greedy like them. Step3. Rep. request a percentage from Voter.

Example: If Voter wishes to receive $5000 contracts Rep. will tell Voter to request $8000. …$5000 for Voter $3000 in Rep.'s pocket. That’s the system of corruption in the VI and after election they know who to call on.

I would say 'The End' but there is never no end with greedy people!

The Money the Reps. will make after getting their cut from the contracts of the many greedy voters who took bribes this election will be greater than any lottery winnings to date!…by next election every corrupt and greedy person in the population will be running for election trying to get some of that big money they see them with! Then see white and brown envelops like peas being given out during election time!!

The people have spoken overwhelmingly. While I am certain some have excepted bribes for a vote i did not hear this cry when the VIP won the election. How many boat loads do some parties pay for to bring from St. Thomas? How many contracts did the VIP give out at the 11th hour?

Did you really expect the slate you had to win an election? I tell you what put better rules in place and come back with the same group and let's see what happens. Matter of fact, the NDP is hoping you come back with the same group and keep Frazer as the chairman. A snowball in hell has a better chance then that slate and they knew it. Spoke very little about what they would do for the people just nonsense and zingers...

Don't try to insult all the voters, this race was not even close.

the set up-- money, jobs, appliances or any thing that might sway votes usually gets done before the actual vote. Everything is in place already, in theory. It is the responsibility of the public to pay attention and watch. Not only for voting but for plans, procedures, protocols which manipulate projects and governing. You see smoke- something's up. You see fire- it's too late.

I am truly sick and fed up of the blaming game. Justifying one’s wrong by another is foolishness. VIP when in power dished out political favours for votes and also the NDP, but they are both wrong. What we need is a third political movement that dears to be different. That makes sense!

I agree with the caller…I think it is time that the good citizens of the BVI get up and fight for democracy in this Land. I am tired of this bribery and corruption too. Let’s protest this election people ‘The Kingdom of God Must Take It By Force’!!

This is in no way justification - however, if precedence has been set in a game, people will always play by those rules! This kind of political practice is nothing new, nor is it unique only to the BVI! However, in an effort to tarnish the NDP's victory all of a sudden everybody has a problem or an excuse! Am I to understand that the reason voters in D1 voted the way they did, was because Hon. F doled out more monies than Ms. S?? Same for D3?? If the so-called 'white envelope' accusations are true, then in my humble opinion, the greater part of the problem lies with the voters themselves who accepted such bribery for their PRICELESS votes. This would also suggest (based on the landslide of a win) that majority of the BVI people are susceptible to bribery! I have to believe however, that this is absolutely not the case!
I understand that we are passionate about our politics and political party, but this is no excuse for us to become bitter or sore losers. My recommendation would be for the VIP party to conduct a debrief session, find out what their weakness were/are, make the necessary adjustments and regroup “from now” for the next election. Remember; He who fails to plan, plans to fail…it is that simple. Finally, the election result is final…You need to shut-up, take a bow and si-dung!

This is complete mismanagement and corruption. Due to contractual and other bribery … In essence much of our tax dollars have elected these officials.

The people have not spoken but the white and brown envelopes , tvs, appliances, etc have spoken. This was evident in both parties and most of this came from who has could have afforded to do so and who could the better party of the monopoly.

For years the VIP used the bribing method of winning the election by handing out the white and brown envelopes along with purchasing the appliances that was requested by their supporters. They continued the same tricks this year but it was to their disadvantage because many of their supporters were fed up with them making empty promises and avoiding them continuously. It's high time they stop talking nonsense and accept the fact that they were defeated at the polls. Contrary to the caller's opinion, the people have spoken by voting against the VIP and dat makes sense.

Doug Wheatley thought this up over lunch at the PUB. These are the type of people compounding a non problem instead of being part of the solution. I am tired of this. It's obvious some of us forget what Fraser did (1) putting up stop lights on the round about after being advised against it $$$$$ down the drain (2) signed a contract with Bi-Water and here we here how many years later and still no suitable water solution. Now tell me if he is someone looking out for this little island. Doug I'm sorry you need to quit while you are behind.

Looks to me that the people spoke loud and clear. In fact, convincingly . If what you say is correct that would have to be thousands of gifts . In addition no one knows how the gift recipients vote. The bottom line is when you lose that badly take the high road and accept your defeat .There is always a next time!
